My Chinchilla let me hold him today!!!

After all this time my Chinchilla let me hold him today!!! We are always so nervous to touch him too much so we hadn't for quite some time. But tonight I ended up rearranging where we keep him in the room and he was so much more active, making happy noises and watching us more intently. So I opened the top door on his cage and he was slowly crawling onto my hand and then running away. But eventually I just said in a welcoming tone "come on" and he just DID. Hopped right into my hands. I brought him closer to my chest and he snuggled close a bit then I slowly helped him turn to go back in the cage if he wanted too and he slowly crawled back into it. My heart was racing i was so so happy!!! I definitely will sleep with fulfilment in my heart 😭 i know it's not that crazy but it meant so much to me!!!#chinchilla #storytime #lemon8contest #petlover

... Read moreChinchillas are known for their shy and skittish nature, making this moment especially precious. To ensure your chinchilla feels comfortable, create a calm environment by minimizing sudden movements and noises. Regular interaction can gradually build trust—start by simply speaking to them softly from a distance. As they become more accustomed to your presence, try offering treats to associate your hands with positive experiences. Wait for them to approach you at their own pace; forcing interaction can lead to stress. Always remember to handle your chinchilla gently, supporting their body to make the experience enjoyable for them. If your chinchilla seems anxious, take a step back and let them assess the situation while still providing encouragement. Bonding with your pet like this can lead to a deeper connection and a more fulfilling relationship. Keep in mind that every chinchilla is unique; some may take longer to adapt than others. This journey of building trust can be truly rewarding.

You need a bigger cage. Like 2-3 story tall. Please don’t use the ones they give you at pet co. Also no plastic!!! Please change this and don’t neglect your chinchilla:(
