my advice for coping with grief 🌸

one of the turning points in my life was when I lost my dad to cancer at a young age. it was (and still is) one of the hardest times for me but it also shaped who I am today. grief is something l've had to learn to embrace and live with. it's not something you can just push away, so here are some of the mechanisms l've utilized to overcome grief!

here's a quote to illustrate grief: "Grief, I've learned, is really just love. It's all the love you want to give, but cannot. All that unspent love gathers up in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat, and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go." ~ Jamie Anderson

One powerful method is journaling, as it allows you to express emotions that may be difficult to communicate verbally. Writing can take many forms, from daily reflections to expressive poetry, and it often serves as a therapeutic outlet. Engaging in hobbies can also be instrumental in the healing process. Explore new activities that bring you joy, whether it's painting, learning a new language, or listening to uplifting music. These hobbies can take your mind off grief and provide a constructive way to release pent-up emotions. Additionally, don't underestimate the benefits of prayer or spiritual reflection. Many find solace in their beliefs during tough times, using prayer as a means to connect with something greater and find peace. If you find your grief particularly challenging, seeking professional help can be an essential step forward. Therapists provide a confidential and safe space to unpack your feelings and develop personalized coping strategies. Remember, reaching out for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a courageous step to healing.

I’m 13 and lost my Dad 9 months ago. I’m so sad all the time. He was my best friend and only person that could get me. 😭
