I just turned 31.. here’s my advice as a girl who re-invents herself every year 🩷
To know me five years ago, you wouldn’t even recognize the person that you see today. I was severely depressed, anxious, trying to hold a life together that wasn’t meant for me. If I’m being honest I had no idea what 30 would look like.
Some of it has been filled with is grief from losing relationships I thought I’d have for life.
Betraying myself sometimes to make others happy while I suffered.
Being directionless & alone.
Losing jobs and money
But it’s also been filled with love and new communities when I lost the old ones
Sticking to my boundaries & goals
changing the things I know I can, leave what I can’t and the wisdom to know the difference.
People who wanna see me win ( personally and my internet cousins 🥹🩷 I love yall sm)
It truly does get better. You just gotta stick around long enough to experience it.
Hey everyone! Building on my reflections about turning 31 and reinventing myself, I wanted to dive deeper into some of the practical ways I navigate life's twists and turns. It's not always easy, but trust me, these lessons have been game-changers for my mental well-being and overall happiness. One of the biggest lessons I've learned, especially as I've gotten older, is that discernment is everything. It’s more than just gut feelings; it’s about paying attention to patterns and truly understanding what serves you and what drains you. For me, this meant realizing when to leave situations that no longer aligned with my values – whether it was a demanding job that zapped my energy, a friendship that felt one-sided, or even just knowing when to gracefully exit a party when the vibe shifted. It's tough sometimes, but practicing this has saved me so much heartache and allowed space for better things to enter my life. Remember, you don't need to prove you've changed; people will notice when your access to them no longer comes with explanation or apology. Another huge pillar of my healing journey has been community is healing. After losing old connections, I was so scared to open up again. But I learned that not everyone will harm you, and finding your tribe is crucial. This could be online friends, new hobby groups, or even just connecting more deeply with family members who truly support you. You actually can choose your family – the people who uplift you and celebrate your wins. It takes effort to build these bonds, but it’s worth every moment. And speaking of taking action, I used to fall into the trap of waiting to feel ready. My biggest advice now? Don't! Half the doors in my life opened because I knocked while still scared. Whether it was starting a new project, reaching out to new people, or even just booking that solo trip I dreamed of, I just did it. Sometimes, the "no's" aren't bad; they often steer you exactly where you're supposed to be, guiding you to a better path or a clearer understanding of what you really want. Finally, managing that inner critic is key. The voice in your head is a liar more often than not. You’re not lazy, behind, or unlovable. You're genuinely doing the best with the cards you're dealt. Give yourself grace. And for those moments when life feels overwhelming, learn the art of detachment. Control what you can, pour your energy there, and leave the rest. It's a powerful tool for reducing anxiety and finding peace. Oh, and a quick one from my travel bug heart: Travel as often as possible (weekend trips count!). You don't need a full week off to deserve a quick refresh. Even a short getaway can offer a new perspective and remind you of the bigger picture. My journey to 31 has taught me that life is a continuous process of shedding and growing. It truly does get better, but you have to be an active participant in your own evolution. Keep showing up for yourself, because you deserve all the good things coming your way. 🩷
