So here’s what happened, in October I cut my hair because I was having a lot of mini knots and split ends. After many research I learned that finger coiling a lot could have been a huge cause..
I went to a salon and they cut it off.. i felt so insecure so I started wearing wigs, then did mini twist. Now, i started using my natural hair but I don’t feel all the way comfortable :(
Tbh even though it has grown a bit more and I was able to discovered the cause of the issue. I feel exhausted :(
I keep seeing videos of natural girlies who thrive using heat in their hair. The last time i straightened my hair was in 2023. I just feel tired and I want to feel more confident in myself. I want my hair to be longer and I feel like it took me awhile to understand what was happening to my hair and now that I know I just don’t want to keep trying. I’m tired of it. All I ever wanted was long curly hair. But any long hair is fine. I just don’t want to keep cutting it.
I keep touching my ends and so far so good. No split ends… i have a crush that may visit me next month and Idk what to do with this head LOL… I’m just like should I try mini twist extensions again before straightening ?
:( I just feel sad and I know that if I keep having knots I will have to start making changes and use heat.
Update ::: I found some products that seem to have help me and I’ve been receiving less knots. I added an august update but will soon post one for September/October. I’m really happy i made this post to be able to see my progress🥹
... Read moreNavigating the world of curly hair can feel like a maze, right? Like many of you, I've had my share of ups and downs, from battling stubborn knots to dealing with frustrating split ends. It's a journey of discovery, and while my main post shares my personal timeline, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into some of the things I've learned that might help you on your own curly hair adventure.
One of the first steps I realized was crucial was understanding my hair type. Even though my initial struggles were about damage, knowing if you have 3A, 4C, or something in between really guides your product choices. For my coily hair, moisture is non-negotiable! I learned that products rich in humectants and emollients are key to keeping those tight curls happy and defined, preventing them from drying out and leading to those dreaded mini knots.
Speaking of knots and split ends – a major pain point for me! I discovered that excessive finger coiling, which I used to do a lot, actually contributed to my split ends. Now, I focus on gentle detangling with a wide-tooth comb in the shower, only when my hair is saturated with conditioner. And regular trims are a must, even if you're trying to grow your hair out. It feels counterintuitive, but getting rid of those unhealthy ends allows for healthier, stronger growth. My goal was always longer curly hair, and this has been a game-changer.
For those looking into protective styles like mini twists, I've found them incredibly helpful for retaining length and giving my hair a break. When done correctly, they minimize manipulation and protect your ends, which is vital for growth. However, make sure to give your hair proper moisture underneath and avoid making them too tight, as tension can cause more harm than good. I've also experimented with different products for my mini twists to ensure they stay moisturized and don't contribute to dryness.
And for my fellow naturalistas who've gone through a big chop or are rocking short curly hair, embrace it! While I struggled with insecurity after my cut, I now see it as a fresh start. Focus on scalp health during this phase, as a healthy scalp is the foundation for healthy hair growth. Massaging your scalp regularly and using lightweight, nourishing oils can stimulate follicles. I've also found that a good curl kit designed for short hair can make a huge difference in styling and maintaining definition without weighing down your curls. My journey has shown me that consistency and patience are truly rewarded. Every strand tells a story, and yours is beautiful! What have been your go-to tips for healthy curly hair?
