Being ‘Healthy’ Was Actually Making Me Miserable

Unpopular opinion: wellness has become way too performative.

For a while, I was chasing every “healthy habit” I saw online, green juice, 6 a.m. workouts, daily journaling, 10-step routines. And while those things can be great, I slowly realized I wasn’t doing them because they made me feel good… I was doing them because they made me feel in control.

I used to think discipline was the highest form of self-love, but I’ve learned that sometimes, softness is too.

Resting doesn’t mean I’ve fallen off. Skipping a workout doesn’t mean I’ve lost motivation. Not journaling every day doesn’t mean I’m disconnected.

What actually helped my mental health the most was letting go of the pressure to constantly “optimize” myself.

Wellness isn’t about controlling every detail of your life, it’s about reconnecting to yourself. Listening to what your body and mind need that day, even when it doesn’t fit the aesthetic.

Real wellness isn’t always pretty.

Sometimes it’s messy boundaries, saying no, sitting with your emotions, or doing absolutely nothing.

And that’s okay.

Because peace doesn’t come from perfection, it comes from honesty. 🤍
