Burnout is real. Notice the signs. 💜💚

... Read moreLately, I've been feeling so completely drained, like my battery is constantly at 1% no matter how much rest I get. It turns out, burnout is a real thing, and it's far more common than I ever realized. I stumbled upon this infographic about the 12 stages of burnout, and honestly, it was a huge wake-up call for me. It showed how burnout isn't just about being tired; it's a gradual slide from feeling overwhelmed to total mental and physical collapse. What really struck me was how subtly it starts. At first, you might just feel an intense need to prove yourself, taking on more and more. Then you might notice you're working harder but feeling less satisfied, or maybe you're starting to neglect your own needs. For me, that looked like constantly checking emails late at night and finding it impossible to truly 'switch off'. These early warning signs, often dismissed as just 'being busy,' are actually critical indicators of nervous exhaustion creeping in. I’ve also been thinking about how some of us, especially those who might be considered 'gifted adults' or high achievers, can be particularly susceptible. We often have high expectations for ourselves, a strong drive to excel, and sometimes struggle to say no or delegate. This can lead us to push past our limits, accelerating through those burnout stages much faster. And let's not forget the impact of our always-on digital world! Constant notifications, endless scrolling, and the pressure to be constantly available contribute to what I call 'digital burnout symptoms.' My eyes were constantly strained, and I found myself getting irritable just looking at my screen, even during relaxation time. It’s like your brain never gets a real break. Recognizing these stages and symptoms is the first huge step. For me, seeing the progression from simply overworking to feeling emotionally empty made me realize I needed to actively engage in 'recovery stages of burnout.' It’s not just about stopping work; it's about intentionally rebuilding your energy and mental well-being. This could mean setting firm boundaries with work, learning to delegate (which is a big one for me!), or consciously scheduling downtime that doesn't involve screens. I've started practicing mindfulness for a few minutes each day, even if it's just focusing on my breath. It helps calm that constant buzz in my head. If any of this resonates with you, please know you're not alone. It’s so important to listen to your body and mind before you reach that full mental and physical collapse. Let's make a conscious effort to prioritize our peace of mind and prevent burnout from taking over our lives. What small step can you take today to nurture yourself? I'd love to hear your thoughts and what strategies have worked for you!
