tips that helped me lose 60+lbs and keep it off
🤍 #1 . Understand the difference between being hungry vs. being bored — something that helped me was The Apple Test: Ask yourself if you are hungry enough to eat an Apple. If the answer is no, you’re not actually hungry, just bored and looking for something to snack on. 😌
❗️I’m not a dietician or trainer, so please take this advice gently and remember to regularly check in with yourself/a doctor when starting a new fitness/wellness regime.
🤍 #2 . Build Muscle – I actually cannot emphasize this enough. Muscle is what keeps you young, fit and well. As an Asian woman that did not inherit the crazy metabolism my other Asian friends have, the next best option is to build muscle. More muscle = higher metabolism = more food you can eat hehe 🤭
🤍 #3 . Start with small lifestyle changes – make the switch from full sugar to zero sugar sodas, have a glass of water before a meal, choose higher protein food options. Small changes are manageable and you don’t even have to put much thought into it. Once you have those down, you can move onto bigger changes. Take it from me, I lost a ton of hair after losing the first 50lbs super quickly 😩
🤍 #4 . Understand macronutrients – everyone knows you can lose weight by cutting your calories, but understanding what macronutrients to eat really makes the difference in how your body feels + looks over time. imo, high protein, low fats, medium carbs has been working really well for me in getting slim thick results 🤩
🤍 #5 . Give yourself at least 4 weeks to see results – if you’re starting your fitness journey for the first time, your results are going to be crazy (newbie gains are so real!). Change takes time and everyone’s body responds to change differently. Be patient with yourself and love the process.
Losing a significant amount of weight and maintaining that loss is truly a journey that requires not only commitment but also smart strategies tailored to your lifestyle. One of the most helpful tools is the Apple Test, which helps distinguish true hunger from boredom eating—a common pitfall. Before reaching for a snack, asking yourself if you’re hungry enough to eat an apple can prevent unnecessary calorie intake and cultivate mindful eating habits. Building muscle plays a crucial role in weight loss and long-term maintenance. Muscle tissue burns more calories than fat, even at rest, which naturally elevates metabolism. Incorporating strength training exercises into your routine can also improve your body composition by toning muscles and keeping you mobile and energetic. It’s a win-win for anyone aiming to look fit and feel youthful. Transitioning into a healthier lifestyle is more manageable when small, sustainable changes are prioritized. Ditching sugary sodas for zero-sugar alternatives, drinking a glass of water before meals to help control appetite, and choosing foods higher in protein are simple yet effective ways to boost your progress. These small shifts don’t overwhelm your routine and create a foundation for bigger, healthier changes. Understanding macronutrients – proteins, fats, and carbohydrates – is another essential aspect of successful weight management. While reducing calories contributes to weight loss, the right balance of macronutrients influences how your body looks and feels. A diet prioritizing high protein, moderate carbs, and low fat can support fat loss while preserving muscle mass, leading to a desirable 'slim thick' physique. Finally, patience is key. Results take time, especially after the initial rapid weight loss phase. Giving yourself at least four weeks to notice progress helps set realistic expectations and encourages consistent habits. Tracking your progress through various means like photos, measurements, or scales can motivate you and make the journey feel more rewarding. Remember, weight loss is a personal journey, and it’s important to check in with healthcare professionals when making significant lifestyle changes. Embracing these practical tips with compassion and persistence can help you achieve and sustain your health goals effectively.
