Best postpartum exercises to rehab your core.

... Read moreWhen I was recovering postpartum, my core felt like a stranger. Everything from lifting my baby to just getting out of bed felt incredibly difficult. I knew I needed to start *postpartum core rehab*, but finding safe exercises that wouldn't make things worse, especially with concerns about diastasis recti or a weak core after delivery (and for moms recovering from a *C-section*!), seemed overwhelming. That's when I discovered the magic of heel slides – a truly BEST postpartum exercise to rehab your core without putting stress on my healing body. These ground exercises are a game-changer because they help you reconnect with your deep core muscles gently, which is exactly what you need after childbirth. The beauty of the heel slide movement is its simplicity and effectiveness. It's one of those essential postpartum core rehabilitation exercises that almost everyone can do, provided they get the all-clear from their doctor or physical therapist. So, how do you do them correctly? Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor, about hip-width apart. Make sure your lower back has a natural curve, not pressed flat but also not overly arched. Now, take a deep breath in, and as you exhale, gently draw your belly button towards your spine, engaging your deep core muscles (transverse abdominis). While keeping this core engagement, slowly slide one heel away from your body, extending your leg straight out. The key here, as the experts (and my own experience!) taught me, is to keep hips still when doing one leg movements and truly focus on using your abs to control the slide. Avoid arching your back or letting your pelvis rock. Slide your leg back in slowly, maintaining that core connection. Alternate legs, performing 10-15 repetitions on each side. What makes heel slides core rehab postpartum so effective? For me, it was how they allowed me to rebuild strength without crunching or straining, which is crucial for *diastasis recti recovery*. If you have *diastasis recti or a weak core*, these movements are incredibly *safe*. They teach your deepest core muscles to activate properly again, which is the foundation for closing the gap and regaining abdominal strength. Plus, since they are *ground exercises*, there's no pressure on your pelvic floor, making them ideal for early *postpartum rehab*. Beyond just *diastasis recti*, heel slides contribute to overall *postpartum core strength*. They improve stability, help reduce back pain, and set the stage for more advanced exercises down the line. I found that consistently doing these heel slides exercise core rehab postpartum helped me feel more stable and confident in my body again. It wasn't just about getting my "pre-baby body" back, but about feeling strong and capable for the demands of motherhood. Remember, consistency is key, and always listen to your body. If something feels painful, stop. Your recovery journey is unique, and these best postpartum exercises to rehab your core are a fantastic starting point for building a strong, functional core after baby.
