Do You Have A Wide Rib Cage? Try This.

2025/6/8 Edited to

... Read moreWhen I first noticed a change in my rib cage after giving birth, I felt a bit lost. It wasn't just about my 'mommy tummy' but also this feeling of my ribs pushing out more. If you're wondering, 'do I have a wide rib cage?' it's a common concern for many of us mamas! A simple way to tell is to stand in front of a mirror. Look at your posture – are your lower ribs flaring out, perhaps more than they did before pregnancy? You can also gently place your hands just below your bust line, wrapping your fingers around your ribs. If you feel a noticeable outward flare or struggle to bring your fingers together, you might be experiencing a wider rib cage. Compared to a 'normal' rib cage that sits more snugly, a wide one tends to have a more pronounced outward angle. So, why does this happen? During pregnancy, our bodies undergo incredible changes. Hormones like relaxin loosen ligaments, making space for our growing babies. This, combined with the expanding uterus pushing upwards, can cause our ribs to splay outwards. Posture changes during pregnancy and while nursing can also contribute. The good news, as I've learned, is that this can often be corrected by doing targeted exercises! It’s not just about aesthetics; focusing on core and diaphragm strength can really help bring those ribs back into a more aligned position. I found that exercises that gently engage the deep core muscles and focus on breathing techniques, like those that encourage full exhalation to draw the ribs in, were incredibly beneficial. Remember, consistency is key! Incorporating these types of movements into your routine, perhaps doing '10 reps x 3 sets' as a guideline, can make a real difference. It takes time and patience, but feeling stronger and more aligned is so worth it. Don't be disheartened; many moms have been there, and with the right approach, you can feel more comfortable and confident in your body again.

Most people train their outer abs. But the muscles that actually support your body are deeper. Your deep core stabilizes the spine, supports posture, and helps the stomach stay naturally engaged. When the hips are tight and the rib cage is restricted, the deep core can’t activate properly. Th
