Invincible: S3 E6 Review
Hey Invincible fans! I've been absolutely gripped by Season 3, and Episode 6 really threw me for a loop. After watching, I couldn't stop thinking about all the amazing characters and where they're headed, which got me diving deep into some lore. One thing that always fascinates me is the complex topic of character ages in Invincible. We see Mark Grayson start as a relatively normal teenager, but his growth, both as a person and a hero, accelerates so quickly! It makes you wonder how old everyone actually is and how their age influences decisions. While Mark is navigating his late teens and early twenties, characters like Atom Eve are around the same age, experiencing their own intense transformations. Then you have the Viltrumites, like Nolan (Omni-Man), who age incredibly slowly, living for millennia. This stark contrast in lifespans between humans, half-Viltrumites, and full Viltrumites really highlights their different perspectives and how they approach relationships and conflicts. It’s truly mind-bending to consider the long-term implications for Mark and Eve’s future. Speaking of Mark Grayson, he's undeniably the heart of the series. This season, especially through pivotal moments like Episode 6, we've seen him grapple with immense pressure—his dual heritage, overwhelming responsibilities, and the sheer weight of potentially saving multiple worlds. His evolution from a hesitant, naive hero to a more confident, yet deeply conflicted, figure is incredible to witness. Every punch he throws, every agonizing decision he's forced to make, feels profoundly earned. I find myself constantly rooting for him, even when he stumbles, because his intentions are pure, and his struggles are so relatable, despite his god-like superpowers. He's more than just a hero; he's a young man trying to figure out his place in a chaotic universe. And for those of you who've ventured into the wider Invincible comic book universe, you might be familiar with the incredibly cool character known as Tech Jacket. He's a creation of Robert Kirkman as well, and his series is set squarely within the same continuity as Invincible! Tech Jacket, whose civilian name is Zack Thompson, gains his powers after donning an advanced alien battlesuit. While he hasn't made a major, explicit appearance in the animated show yet, the possibility of him crossing paths with Invincible is always a source of excitement for comic fans. It just goes to show how expansive and intricately interconnected this superhero world is, and it makes me hope we get to see more of these auxiliary characters integrated into the main storyline in future seasons. Imagine the epic team-ups! Finally, a quick thought on the visual style. While the Invincible animated series is renowned for its vibrant, often graphically intense, animation, sometimes I hear people mention 'black and white Invincible.' This typically refers to certain stylistic choices seen in the original comic books, or even just the raw, uncolored line art that showcases incredible detail and dynamic action. The animation team does a fantastic job of bringing the rich, impactful colors of the comic to life on screen, but there's an undeniable, raw power and aesthetic to the comic's original black and white penciling that many long-time fans adore. It really highlights the dynamic action sequences and intense character expressions in a different, gritty way. What are your thoughts on Season 3 so far? Are there any particular characters or plotlines you're hoping to see explored further in upcoming episodes? I’d love to hear your theories and reactions in the comments!
