As a massive fan of Ninjago, Nya has always been one of my favorite characters to draw. Her journey from a regular mechanic to the powerful Master of Water, and eventually the Water Spirit, offers so much creative inspiration! I wanted to share a bit about my process and what drives me to create fanart of her. When I started working on these pieces, my main goal was to capture all the different facets of Nya. I particularly love exploring her water spirit form. Imagining her with those beautiful blue, wavy locks and glowing yellow eyes, partially submerged in water with a sun and palm tree in the background, really brings out her connection to the element. It’s a challenge to make translucent effects look good, especially for a 'glowing blue, translucent LEGO figure of Nya,' but it’s so rewarding when it comes together. I often think about how her powers would manifest visually, like the way her water shield shimmers or how she moves fluidly in battle. Then there's her iconic ninja look! Drawing Nya in her red and blue ninja outfit, complete with her golden trident, is always a blast. I try to make her poses dynamic, reflecting her strength and agility. Sometimes I'll do a smaller head sketch just to get her expression right. It's fascinating to see how the official art evolves, and I love putting my own spin on it, sometimes leaning into a more 'anime' style for certain features to give her a unique flair. It's all about celebrating her character, whether she's battling villains or offering wisdom to the team. For anyone else out there who loves creating Ninjago fanart, my biggest tip is to really connect with the character's essence. What makes Nya, Nya? Is it her determination, her compassion, or her incredible power? Thinking about these things helps bring depth to your drawings. Don't be afraid to experiment with different styles—whether you prefer a realistic approach, a more cartoony look, or even an anime-inspired aesthetic, your unique interpretation is what makes your art special. Drawing Nya, especially her 'water ninja' aspects, has definitely helped me grow as an artist. Keep creating, Ninjago artists!
