Housewife depression is real ~diary

It’s crazy to think that I finally got my wish of becoming a housewife earlier than I thought I was. With that being said, becoming a housewife has its ups and downs, and I hit a really big down.

Whenever I was getting super depressed after two weeks of being a housewife, I wondered if something was wrong with me, and if others had felt the same way. Then I started to research housewive depression, I realized that the main cause of my depression is probably the fact that I lost my identity.

My identity was my job. My identity was being a manager. My identity was always working and now I lost it all now I don’t have that identity and now I have to figure out who am I? What do I like? Do I have hobbies? This has been a difficult struggle, but I’ve been getting better and I wanna know if anybody else struggles with this as well.

I’ve been trying to go on walks more focus on my special hobbies clean my house and read my Bible.

... Read moreIt's truly validating to realize that the feelings of sadness and being lost aren't just 'in your head' when you become a housewife. For so many of us, the transition from a career, a bustling social life, or even just a different routine, to the demanding yet often isolating role of a housewife, can trigger unexpected mental health struggles. I remember thinking, 'I have everything I wanted, why am I feeling this way?' It’s a common question, and the answer often lies in the subtle but profound shift in our identity. When your daily life was structured around a job, a title, or a specific set of responsibilities outside the home, that became a huge part of who you were. Losing that can feel like losing a limb. Your job might have given you financial independence, a sense of purpose, regular adult interaction, and tangible achievements. Suddenly, without that framework, you're left to redefine yourself. This identity loss can be incredibly disorienting, leading to deep emotional struggle and a pervasive sense of emptiness. Beyond identity, there are other hidden contributors to housewife depression. The isolation can be immense, especially if you're home alone all day without much adult conversation. The relentless, often unseen, nature of household chores can feel thankless. There's also the societal pressure to be the 'perfect' homemaker, which can lead to constant comparison and feelings of inadequacy. We see curated images of perfect homes and happy families, and it's easy to fall into the trap of thinking everyone else has it together while we're silently struggling. So, what can we do when navigating these feelings? It's a journey, not a quick fix, but small steps genuinely help. I found solace in simple things. Prioritizing walks outdoors, even just 15-20 minutes, can dramatically shift your mood. Reconnecting with old hobbies or discovering new ones – whether it's painting, writing, gardening, or even just diving into a good book – helps you reclaim a part of yourself that isn't tied to household duties. Tidying up can be therapeutic; a clean space often creates a clearer mind. And for me, spiritual reflection through reading my Bible offered a sense of grounding and perspective. Don't underestimate the power of these small, consistent actions. Remember, you are not alone in this. Many housewives experience these feelings, and it's okay to acknowledge them. Reaching out to friends, family, or even online communities of fellow housewives can provide immense support and validation. Sometimes, talking to a professional therapist or counselor can offer tailored strategies for coping with depression and rediscovering your purpose. This journey of redefining yourself is a powerful one, and every step, no matter how small, is a step towards a more fulfilling and authentic you.

Silent Struggles Of High Functioning Depression
High-functioning depression is hard to spot because it hides behind a smile. You show up, get things done, and seem fine—but inside, you’re battling exhaustion, numbness, or hopelessness. Just because someone seems okay doesn’t mean they are. Check in on your strong friends. 💗 #mentalhealthawar
