Working with the characters ( Mocha, Michael Mays, Keisha) Mocha lives in Dallas, Texas where HIV is leading the nation but Mocha wants to enter the dating zine. By way Mocha is a register nurse 13 years single Mom with two kids, she’s divorcee 7 years. Dallas, Texas, faces a significant public health challenge as it leads the nation in HIV diagnoses, especially impacting Black communities. Despite advances in HIV prevention, many adults over 30 have seen a decline in condom use, which increases the risk of HIV transmission and other asymptomatic sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). Asymptomatic STDs can silently affect individuals, making regular testing essential for early detection and treatment. Mocha’s story symbolizes the intersection of these health challenges with personal life experiences. As a registered nurse and single mother with a lengthy history of navigating relationships post-divorce, she represents many Black millennial moms facing the dual pressures of health vulnerabilities and dating complexities. The stigma surrounding HIV and limited awareness can affect dating choices and the emotional wellbeing of those involved. Education about HIV prevention methods, including consistent condom use, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP), and open communication with partners, is critical to reduce new infections. Community support and destigmatization efforts are also vital to empower individuals like Mocha to make informed decisions without fear or shame. Engaging with storytelling and creative projects like zines offers a unique avenue for raising awareness and fostering dialogue about HIV in dating and relationships. By sharing authentic experiences, these platforms can help dismantle misconceptions and provide relatable insights, ultimately promoting healthier attitudes and practices in communities heavily impacted by HIV.
