Many of you ask what a typical week looks like, and honestly, no two weeks are ever exactly the same! This past week, while still enjoying the warmth of Florida, gave us a perfect blend of practical bus upkeep, cozy moments, and glimpses of new destinations. It's a constant dance between planning and spontaneity, which I believe is key to making this lifestyle truly work. One of the biggest parts of living in a skoolie is the ongoing project of making it truly *ours*. I spent a good chunk of time this week tackling some exterior updates, including painting parts of our yellow school bus. It's a labor of love, requiring patience and a willingness to get a little messy, but seeing our vision come to life, even one brushstroke (or spray gun pass!) at a time, is incredibly rewarding. There’s a real sense of accomplishment in knowing every corner of your home, and how to maintain it on the road. We’ve learned so much about basic mechanics and carpentry – skills you pick up quickly when your home is on wheels! Beyond the work, it’s about embracing the simple joys. I had some incredibly sweet moments just napping in the hammock with my beloved dog, soaking in the quiet afternoons. Finding these pockets of peace amidst travels is essential for mental well-being. And let's be real, sometimes the greatest luxury is a perfectly iced Dunkin' drink after a long day of driving or exploring. Those small treats make the journey extra special and remind you to celebrate the little wins. We’re currently eyeing a move out West by April, but the beauty of this lifestyle is the flexibility to adjust plans as we go. This week involved a lot of research and discussions about potential routes, scouting out new spots – from serene sandy beaches where my dog can run free, to quiet dirt roads leading to unexpected encounters with horses. Each new location feels like a fresh start, a new chapter in our ever-evolving story. Deciding where to go next often involves balancing desired experiences with practicalities like fuel costs, weather, and finding safe overnight parking. Of course, bus life isn't always sunsets from the bus roof or idyllic beach days. There are challenges, like finding clever storage solutions – something I'm always optimizing. Every item onboard needs a purpose and a designated spot; it's truly a 'Stash Bag' mentality for everything! We’re constantly learning to live more minimally and efficiently. Another aspect is staying connected and documenting these adventures; balancing exploring new landscapes with creating content to share with all of you can be a juggle, especially when internet access is spotty. It's about finding that sweet spot between living in the moment and sharing the journey. Ultimately, it's a lifestyle that pushes you to adapt, to appreciate the small things, and to connect deeply with nature and yourself. If you're dreaming of hitting the road, know that it's a mix of hard work, incredible freedom, and endless discovery. It requires resourcefulness and a positive attitude, but the payoff of waking up to a new view every day is unparalleled. Keep following along as we head from sunny Florida towards new horizons out West – who knows what amazing places and experiences await!
