First time trying Thai chicken rice

First time trying Go Ang and here’s what I had.

Ordered the roasted chicken but it felt a bit dry for me. The poached chicken was much better, softer and juicy. I actually enjoyed that one more. The rice was lighter compared to our usual style and the chilli had that sweet and spicy kick.

Added mushroom and kai lan with garlic and a chai poh omelette to complete the meal. The omelette was fluffy with that savoury crunch from the preserved radish.

Go-Ang Pratunam Chicken Rice
2/25 Edited to

... Read moreTrying Thai chicken rice for the first time can be quite an eye-opener, especially when you taste the subtle differences between the poached and roasted versions. From my personal experience, the poached chicken is often juicier and more tender, making it a crowd-pleaser for those who prefer a softer texture. The roasted chicken has its fans too, especially for those who enjoy a slightly crispier skin and a more intense flavor, though it can sometimes feel a bit drier as I found at Go Ang. One aspect that stood out was the rice, which was lighter and less greasy than the typical Hainanese chicken rice I usually have. This makes the dish feel less heavy while still allowing the flavors to shine through, especially when paired with the accompanying chilli sauce. The sweet and spicy kick of the chilli at Go Ang perfectly balanced the savory chicken and rice, enhancing the overall taste. To complete the meal, I added mushroom and kai lan cooked with garlic, which brought a fresh, vibrant crunch that contrasted nicely with the softness of the chicken and rice. The chai poh omelette, a fluffy egg dish with crispy preserved radish, added a wonderful savory texture, making the meal more filling and diverse in flavors. For anyone considering trying Thai chicken rice for the first time, I recommend opting for the poached version initially due to its juicy appeal, and don't miss out on the side dishes that round out the experience. It’s also great to explore different eateries like Go Ang to appreciate the subtle regional and personal touches chefs bring to this beloved dish.
