A Walk in Wonder~UU Nature Field Trip

This month’s Unitarian Universalist field trip brought us to Riverbend Park — a peaceful haven nestled in Jupiter, FL. With winding trails, cypress swamps, and the gentle flow of the Loxahatchee River, it’s a perfect spot to slow down, reconnect, and appreciate the wild beauty around us.

We’ve started a new initiative with our UU congregation to explore a new local trail or natural space each month — open to all ages, abilities, and belief systems. Just bring your curiosity, a water bottle, and walking shoes. This practice of collective awe reminds us: the earth is sacred, and so is our shared presence on it.

Riverbend offers biking, hiking, kayaking, canoe rentals, wildlife spotting, and quiet space for reflection. Parking is free, trails are well-marked, and the energy is pure serenity.

Riverbend Park in Jupiter, Florida, is a hidden gem perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers. Located beside the beautiful Loxahatchee River, this park offers a unique blend of cypress swamps and winding trails that ensure a tranquil experience. The welcoming environment is designed for visitors of all backgrounds and abilities, making it an ideal spot for family outings or group adventures. In addition to hiking and biking opportunities, Riverbend Park also features kayaking and canoe rentals, enabling you to explore its waterways. Wildlife spotting is a common occurrence here, with various species that call the park home, providing an enriching experience for those interested in nature and conservation. Free parking allows you to enjoy the park without the worry of added costs, and well-marked trails make navigation easy for everyone. This month’s initiative aimed at promoting connection within our UU community encourages each participant to bring their curiosity and adventure spirit. The practice of engaging with the Earth's beauty serves to remind us of our collective responsibility to protect it and reverence towards nature. Each visit to Riverbend is an opportunity to reflect, appreciate, and grow in fellowship with others who cherish the environment. As we document our encounters, we invite the broader community to join us in celebrating the tranquility and wild spirit Florida embodies.

The Carlsbad flower field bloomed! It’s prettier than what I saw in photos. I went at the earliest at 9am and it was the best decision because people and tour groups started to arrive and longer wait times for photo spots when I left around 11. There’s so many different types and colors of flower.
