Hey everyone! So, when I first started getting into wigs, I was totally overwhelmed. There are so many guides out there, but finding one that truly felt beginner friendly for a wig install was tough. I remember feeling lost staring at all the different glues and tools online. But don't worry, I've learned a ton since then, and I want to share my go-to process and the wig installation tools that made all the difference for me! First things first, let’s talk about the essential wig installation tools every beginner needs. You don't need to break the bank! Wig Cap: This is super important for laying your natural hair flat and creating a smooth base. I always go for a nude or skin-toned cap to help with that natural scalp illusion. Alcohol Wipes (70% rubbing alcohol): Before anything, you need to clean your hairline. This removes oils and makeup, ensuring your adhesive sticks properly. Trust me, skipping this step is a recipe for disaster! Skin Protectant: If you have sensitive skin like me, a skin protectant is a lifesaver. It creates a barrier between your skin and the adhesive, preventing irritation and making removal easier. Wig Adhesive/Glue/Gel: This is where personal preference comes in. For a *beginner friendly wig install*, I recommend a strong hold gel (like Got2b Glued) for temporary wears, or a gentle liquid adhesive for slightly longer wear. Always patch test first! Small Scissors: Crucial for trimming lace. Get a sharp pair with a fine tip for precision. Rat-Tail Comb/Edge Brush: Perfect for parting, laying edges, and pressing down the lace. Mousse/Spritz: To smooth down any flyaways and help melt the lace into your skin. Elastic Band/Melting Band: After applying your wig, this band helps press the lace firmly onto your skin, giving you that 'melted' look. I usually leave mine on for 10-15 minutes. Now, for the beginner friendly wig install itself! It might seem like a lot, but once you do it a few times, it becomes second nature. Step 1: Prep Your Hair: Braid your natural hair down as flat as possible. A flat foundation is key! Put on your wig cap, making sure it covers all your hair. Step 2: Clean Your Skin: Use an alcohol wipe to clean your hairline, extending about an inch back. Follow up with your skin protectant if you're using it. Let it dry completely. Step 3: Apply Adhesive: Apply a thin layer of your chosen adhesive along your hairline, just where the wig lace will sit. If using liquid glue, apply 2-3 thin layers, letting each dry clear and tacky before applying the next. Step 4: Position Your Wig: Carefully place your wig on your head, making sure the front lace aligns with your hairline. Gently press the lace into the tacky adhesive. Step 5: Secure and Melt: Use your rat-tail comb to press the lace down firmly. Don't be afraid to press! Then, tie your elastic band around your hairline to help 'melt' the lace. Leave it on for at least 10-15 minutes, or even longer if you have time. Step 6: Trim Excess Lace: Once the lace is melted, carefully trim off any excess lace in a zig-zag motion for a more natural edge. Less is more here! Step 7: Style and Slay: Remove the band, and use mousse or spritz to blend the lace further and style your baby hairs if desired. And just like that, you've achieved a seamless *wig install*! Remember, practice makes perfect. My first few installs were definitely not perfect, but I kept trying. Don't get discouraged! This beginner friendly wig install guide with the right wig installation tools will set you up for success. You've got this!
