7 Pillars To Self Care 🧖🏽♀️ ✨
Embarking on a self-care journey can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down into manageable areas, or 'pillars,' truly made sense for me. After a lot of trial and error, I found that focusing on these seven key areas has brought so much more balance and joy into my life. It’s not just about pampering; it’s about nurturing every aspect of yourself. First up is Environmental Self-Care. This pillar is all about making your physical surroundings a place that supports your well-being. For me, this meant more than just tidying up. I decided to hang up my posters that brought me joy and declutter spaces that felt chaotic. It’s amazing how a calm and inspiring environment can positively impact your mood and productivity. Think about adding plants, organizing a drawer, or creating a cozy reading nook – simple changes can make a huge difference. Next, we have Mindful/Breathwork Self-Care, which is incredibly powerful for managing stress and anxiety. I discovered that doing breathwork really helps me ground myself. When I feel overwhelmed, taking a few minutes for deep, intentional breaths can instantly calm my nervous system. Techniques like box breathing or the 4-7-8 method are easy to learn and have become essential tools in my daily routine. It’s a quick reset button for when life gets a bit too much. Then there’s Emotional Self-Care. This pillar is all about acknowledging and processing your feelings. For me, my big woman journal has been a lifesaver. She be helping me get through things by giving me a safe space to vent, reflect, and track my emotions. Beyond journaling, this pillar means allowing myself to cry when sad, laugh out loud when happy, and seeking support from friends or a therapist when needed. It’s about not bottling things up and understanding that all emotions are valid. Physical Self-Care is probably the most commonly recognized pillar, but it’s more than just intense workouts. Of course, regular exercise is great, but it’s also about listening to your body. I now make sure to stretch daily, even if it’s just for 10 minutes in the morning. Staying hydrated, eating nourishing foods, and getting enough sleep are all crucial components. It’s about treating your body with respect and providing it with what it needs to thrive, not just punishing it into shape. Spiritual Self-Care is deeply personal for everyone. For me, it involves practices that connect me to something larger than myself. I find immense comfort and guidance through practices like tarot readings; this is one way I help my spiritual side. It could also be meditation, spending time in nature, prayer, or simply reflecting on your values and purpose. It’s about finding meaning and peace, whatever that looks like for you. Play/Creative Self-Care is often overlooked, but it’s vital for joy and rejuvenation. My favorite way to play is to create. I recently finished a painting, and the process of bringing an idea to life was incredibly fulfilling. Whether it’s drawing, dancing, singing, writing stories, or even engaging in a fun hobby like puzzles or video games, dedicating time to activities purely for enjoyment can significantly boost your mood and creativity. It reminds you of the lightness and wonder in life. Finally, Social Self-Care is about nurturing your connections with others. While being social might seem draining sometimes, healthy relationships are crucial for our mental and emotional well-being. It’s not about having a huge circle of friends, but about cultivating meaningful connections with people who uplift you. This could mean having a weekly coffee date with a friend, calling a family member, or joining a community group. It’s about genuine connection and knowing you have a support system.
