... Read moreThere's truly nothing like the magic of Christmas Eve, and for me, it's all about creating those warm, cozy memories right at home. This year, my plans revolved around two of my favorite holiday traditions: baking delicious gingerbread cookies and settling in for a festive "Film Time" marathon with my loved ones.
As soon as December hits, I start dreaming of the sweet, spicy aroma of gingerbread. This year, I decided to embrace my inner pastry chef, donning a cheerful apron (not quite a chef's coat, but it made me feel the part!) and getting flour dusting everywhere โ it's all part of the fun! Baking gingerbread cookies isn't just about the end result; it's the whole joyful process. Mixing the molasses, ginger, and cinnamon, rolling out the dough, and cutting out those adorable little gingerbread men and stars. My top tip for perfect gingerbread? Don't overmix the dough, and chill it thoroughly before rolling. It makes such a difference in preventing them from spreading too much in the oven. Once they're golden brown and cooled, the real fun begins with decorating! Simple white royal icing, colorful sprinkles, and maybe even some silver edible glitter make them look extra festive, perfect for sharing or hanging on the tree. I even tried a new technique this year, outlining the cookies before flooding them with icing โ it made them look so professional!
After the kitchen clean-up (and sneaking a few warm cookies!), it's time to transition into the ultimate cozy movie night. There's a special kind of comfort in dimming the lights, snuggling under a soft blanket, and letting a good film transport you. This year, our "Film Time" picks were a delightful mix that brought smiles and laughter. We started with *Barbie*, which, while not a traditional Christmas movie, is full of vibrant energy, fantastic costumes, and a message about self-discovery that resonates any time of year. Then we moved onto *Turning Red*, a fantastic story about family, friendship, and embracing your unique self โ truly heartwarming for the holidays. And to wrap it up, Zootopia offered a hilarious and clever adventure thatโs always a family favorite, showing how different individuals can come together. We love a good animated movie marathon during the holidays!
To really elevate the movie-watching experience, I love to set the scene. Fairy lights strung around the living room (like the twinkling Christmas lights seen in the background of our baking session) create an instant magical glow. Soft throws, comfy pillows, and a large bowl of popcorn are essential. And hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and marshmallows is a must, of course, alongside our freshly baked gingerbread cookies. Itโs these simple moments, shared with loved ones, that truly make the holiday season special and unforgettable. Building these traditions year after year creates a sense of anticipation and comfort.
These traditions, whether it's a dedicated baking day or a themed movie night, are what build lasting memories. Theyโre a chance to slow down, connect, and soak in the festive spirit. What are your go-to holiday movies or baking traditions? I'd love to hear how you create your own joyful Christmas moments and make your home feel extra special during this magical time of year!
