From my experience and numerous discussions with survivors, it’s clear that men facing harassment often struggle not only with the trauma itself but also with societal disbelief. The phrase "NiĆ©guenlo" (meaning "Deny it") perfectly encapsulates this situation, reflecting the common reaction that male victims encounter when trying to share their stories. One key challenge is the entrenched cultural notion that men cannot be victims of harassment, which leads to underreporting and lack of support services tailored to men. This denial exacerbates feelings of isolation and shame among male survivors. In many countries, legal systems and social institutions are also less prepared or willing to address male harassment cases, further hindering justice and recovery. Sharing real-life experiences and raising awareness about male harassment can help break these barriers. It is crucial to foster inclusive conversations that validate men’s experiences without minimizing or dismissing them. Community support groups and educational programs can provide safe spaces for men to come forward and obtain assistance. Addressing male harassment requires acknowledging it openly, combating stigma, and ensuring equal access to resources and support. Only through collective understanding and action can societies create an environment where every victim is respected and protected regardless of gender.
