Cuando presumen solamente al hijo.
Cuando presumen solamente al hijo.
From my own experience, I've noticed how parents who openly favor one child can unintentionally create divisions within the family. When only the son is praised or celebrated, it can lead to feelings of neglect and resentment among siblings and even affect the self-esteem of the less favored children. This phenomenon of showing off only the son often stems from cultural expectations or traditional viewpoints about gender roles and inheritance. In many families, sons are seen as the bearers of legacy, which might explain why they receive more attention or accolades. However, this focus can be harmful if it overlooks the achievements and qualities of other children. It’s important for families to recognize the value in every member, not just one. Celebrating all children equally fosters healthier relationships and boosts confidence across the entire family. Moreover, acknowledging that each child has unique strengths helps break down stereotypes and promotes a more inclusive and supportive environment. I encourage families to reflect on their ways of showing pride and to strive for a balanced approach that truly embraces every child’s potential. Doing so can prevent long-term emotional harm and build stronger, more loving family bonds. "Niéguenlo"—or denying such favoritism—is common, but recognizing it openly is the first step towards positive change.
