Is It Weird I Don’t Have Mirrors at Home?

A guy I’m dating came over and the first thing he said was, “Uh… why don’t you have any mirrors? This is kinda creepy.”

Like sir, you walked into my home for the first time and immediately decided it’s giving paranormal activity??

I just don’t like mirrors. They make rooms feel cluttered. That’s literally it.

Is it actually weird not to have mirrors, or is he just dramatic?

Some people avoid mirrors because they create a sense of clutter or disrupt the aesthetics of a minimalist or cozy interior. Mirrors also reflect light and images, which can affect the atmosphere of a room; some find this refreshing, while others feel it adds unnecessary visual noise. In many cultures, mirrors have symbolic meanings, sometimes associated with superstition or spiritual beliefs. For instance, mirrors are often thought to reflect energy or souls, which is why some individuals might choose to limit their presence at home to maintain a specific vibe or mood. From a practical standpoint, not having mirrors means you might rely on other methods for grooming or checking your appearance, such as using your phone camera or stepping out when needed. For guests, especially those new to your home, the absence of mirrors might feel unexpected or even eerie, as was the case with the guy who thought the home felt "creepy." However, this reaction is more about personal expectations and cultural norms rather than any inherent oddity. If you prefer a mirror-free environment, you’re not alone. Many people embrace alternative decor strategies that focus on natural light, plants, art, and open space to create a welcoming home. If a visitor expresses discomfort, a simple explanation about your design preferences can clarify things and help them appreciate your unique home style. Ultimately, whether or not to have mirrors is a subjective decision. It’s more important that your home feels right to you rather than conforming to conventional norms. So, no, it’s not weird to live without mirrors — it’s just a reflection of your personal taste and how you want your living space to feel.

He’s creepy, like dude what the heck? I question his brain. I only have 2 mirrors, one in the bathroom and a small desk mirror so I can get ready where I want in the house. I refuse to put mirrors in bedrooms permanently, especially never put one facing the bed.
