goodbye JB, hello batam 🫶

Hello friends!! 🍋🍋🍋

I just came back from Batam with my fav lemon8 creator @Erica ( read her review here ) and it's truly an underrated spot! Most of my friends don't consider traveling to Batam for the weekends. My friend and I hadn't thought about it either, but it randomly came to our minds, and we decided to give it a try. I didn't expect it to be so enjoyable! It's now my favorite getaway spot🫢

Here's what we did during our 2d1n trip:

Day 1:

1) Love Seafood at Nagoya

We had a seafood feast including kangkong, sambal stingray, lala, drinks, and CRABs, all for <$45 🤯

2) Shopping at Nagoya Hill + Massage at Eska

We explored Nagoya Hill shopping mall and had a massage at eska. The massage was alright but a bit pricey for Batam, we paid $40+ for 1.5hr massage 😭

3) Ocarina

One of our favorite spots! It's like an old-school carnival with giant swings, Ferris wheel, and Viking ship etc. The rides cost only about $1.50 each. Plus, there was a foam party happening when we visited - super fun!🎡

4) Next Level Cafe

This café is stunning, and we even stumbled upon a wedding there. The drinks were a lil too sweet, but the ambiance was great. You can also enjoy water activities during the day, like jet skiing and banana boating🚤

5) Dinner at A2 Food Court:

So many food options here, and the outdoor dining concept is fantastic. The food was really good and affordable!

Day 2:

1) Breakfast at Hotel

We were really impressed by the breakfast selection considering we only paid $47 per night for 2 pax, feels like a buffet I have to pay in SG!

2) Absolute spa

We booked a 1.5-hour massage via Klook for less than $20. The masseur applied just the right pressure—I felt reborn after 🤪

3) Wake House Cafe & Ski

A cool place where you can watch people cable ski while enjoying your latte. There's also an option to dine on the river on individual floating platforms (unfortunately, it was raining when we visited). The cafe also offer cable ski at less $20 for 1hr! 🏄‍♂️

4) Timezone

Timezone was a blast with 600 credits for around $30. Our favorite games were basketball hoops and flappy bird. We also took old-school photo strip 📸

5) Love Seafood ( Again! )

We couldn't resist going back to the same seafood place for dinner because it's so delicious and value-for-money! Prawn, sambal stingray, veggies, and drinks cost us <$25

6) Night Market

We stumbled upon this market near the Harbourbay Ferry Terminal. It had local food stalls, a live band, and a great atmosphere! The live band was 💯

Overall, I'd rate this trip 10/10. It was my first trip to Batam, but definitely not my last. If you're getting a bit bored of exploring JB, why not give Batam a try? 💞

Batam

... Read moreIf you're considering a weekend getaway from Johor Bahru, I highly recommend giving Batam a shot. Many travelers overlook this nearby island, but it offers a wonderful blend of fun, food, and relaxation without breaking the bank. One highlight to not miss is the carnival atmosphere at Ocarina Batam. The rides are cheap and charmingly vintage—perfect for those who enjoy a nostalgic amusement park experience. I especially loved the foam party and the Spin Tower ride, which was thrilling yet affordable. For seafood lovers, "Love Seafood" in Nagoya is an affordable feast with generous portions and fresh ingredients, perfect for sharing with friends. Dining at the A2 Food Court also provides a variety of local flavors with open-air seating, ideal after a long day of exploring. If you're into spa relaxation, booking through platforms like Klook can get you quality massages at half the price compared to walk-ins. I had a rejuvenating 1.5-hour massage that felt beyond value. For those who enjoy active fun, Wake House Cafe & Ski offers unique cable-skiing experiences and lakeside dining on floating platforms—though I recommend checking the weather first to fully enjoy these activities. Batam also surprises with its lively night markets near the Harbourbay Ferry Terminal, featuring local food stalls, live music, and a vibrant atmosphere to end your day on a high note. Overall, Batam balances affordability and fun in a way that makes it a refreshing change from JB. Whether it's your first visit or repeat trip, there’s always something new to discover. So pack your bags, grab your travel buddy, and explore this underrated gem nearby!
