Course: Provide Coffee Barista Service

Duration: 2 days

📍Addison Institute

✨Why i signed up✨

I’m not planning to become a barista, just looking for interesting side quests to do since I’m currently unemployed!! I wanted to learn how to brew coffee on my own because despite being a huge coffee lover, the only coffee I knew how to make was 3 in 1 instant coffee LOL…paid $0 becos i used my skillsfuture!!

🙇🏻‍♀️The class🙇🏻‍♀️

The 2 day course was surprisingly fun and I learned a lot about coffee, from its history, different types of beans, harvesting and brewing methods!! Our class was supposed to have 8 pax but only half showed up lol, which was great because it felt a lot more personalized.

The trainer was very knowledgeable and chill, and could answer all our random questions about coffee!! IMO the most enjoyable part was when we got to brew espresso using the coffee machine. I would say about 40% of the class was practical, so be prepared to drink A LOT of coffee… I was literally shaking after like 6 cups bro 😭

We also learned latte art and it was SO difficult… I now have a newfound respect for baristas because I couldn’t even draw a simple heart 🥀

📝Assessment📝

There’s an exam at the end, one practical and one written test, but it’s honestly quite hard to fail. The written test is open book so you really don’t need to use your brain much HAHA

💭Overall thoughts💭

The trainer mentioned that this course is recognised by sg's cafe, and other than me, all my classmates were taking it because they actually want to become baristas.

If you’re planning to attend, bring flasks so you can bring the coffee home!! I felt damn sad pouring away the coffee I made because I physically couldn’t drink anymore 😭

Overall a vry enjoyable experience, 10/10 will recommend!

... Read moreIf you're considering signing up for a barista course with SkillsFuture credits, here are some tips from my experience. First, make sure to check the course details and confirm it's recognized, like the one at Addison Institute, which is acknowledged by Singapore's cafe community. The course mixes theory and hands-on brewing, so prepare to taste a lot of coffee—bring a flask to take home your brews and avoid wasting any. Don't be discouraged if latte art seems tough initially; many beginners find it challenging but rewarding as you practice. Also, the class size can vary, which might mean more personalized coaching if attendance is low. The assessments include practical and written tests, but they’re manageable, especially since the written test is open book. Overall, using SkillsFuture credits for such short, skill-building courses is a great way to explore new hobbies or career paths without financial stress. Whether you aim to become a barista or simply want to brew better coffee at home, this course offered me valuable coffee knowledge and some enjoyable side quests during my unemployment period.

As someone who’s reviewed hundreds of CVs and sat in on salary reviews… here’s what I’ll tell you about salary vs title 👇 Early in your career, it’s tempting to chase big titles. I get it. “Manager”, “Senior Executive”, “Lead” — they look impressive on LinkedIn. You feel proud saying them out
