why do professors ALWAYS do this..

2025/10/1 Edited to

... Read moreWe've all been there, right? Sitting in a college classroom, watching our brilliant professors navigate what seems like the simplest technology with the grace of a newborn giraffe on roller skates. It's truly a universal experience that often leaves students (and sometimes the professors themselves!) a little bewildered. One of the most classic scenarios has to be the infamous 'typing google.com into the search bar' saga. You see them open their Chrome browser, and instead of just using the perfectly functional address bar that doubles as a Google search bar, they meticulously type out 'www.google.com' before hitting enter. Every single time! You want to lean forward and whisper, 'Just type your search term, Professor!' but you hold back, knowing it's a battle not worth fighting. It’s like watching someone manually open and close a car door after every person gets in – technically effective, but wildly inefficient. Then there’s the autocomplete phenomenon. Oh, the autocomplete! We've all seen our professors laboriously type out an entire, lengthy URL or search query, completely ignoring the helpful suggestions that pop up right beneath their cursor. It's as if the internet itself is trying to give them a shortcut, but they're determined to take the scenic route. You can almost feel the collective sigh of the class as they meticulously peck away, one letter at a time, ignoring the option to just 'HIT ENTERRRRRR!' when the perfect suggestion is staring them in the face. And let's not forget the dreaded YouTube autoplay. This one can derail an entire lecture, creating unintentional comedy (or horror). Your professor finishes playing a relevant video for the class, and then, without fail, the next suggested video starts to load. It could be anything – a cat compilation, a conspiracy theory, or something wildly inappropriate for an academic setting. The professor then scrambles, fumbling to find the mouse, frantically trying to stop the impending disaster as the timer ticks down. The whole class holds its breath, hoping it’s not too late. It’s a small detail, but in a quiet classroom setting, that auto-playing video can feel like an eternity. These aren't criticisms of their intelligence, of course. Our professors are incredibly knowledgeable in their fields. It's just a funny quirk of the digital age, where sometimes the simplest tech functions seem to elude even the most brilliant minds. It makes you wonder if they're so deeply engrossed in their research that the common conventions of the Internet just don't register. Or maybe, just maybe, it's a secret test of our patience! What are some of the most memorable tech struggles you've witnessed in your college professor's classroom? Share your stories below!
