Gen Z is Saving The World?! 🤔👆
From personal experience and observations, I've noticed that Gen Z approaches work and activism in ways that really challenge traditional norms. Unlike previous generations, many Gen Z workers refuse to accept exploitation quietly. They value work-life balance, fair treatment, and ethical employers more than just a paycheck, which is quite a shift from the 'work hard and be loyal' mantra that older generations were told to follow. This shift has led to an increase in collective organization among younger workers — from unionizing efforts at retail and fast-food jobs to widespread support for movements like 'antiwork.' These efforts are not just spontaneous but are often organized digitally, allowing a broader scale of participation and rapid dissemination of strategies to fight unfair labor practices. What struck me most is how Gen Z is able to leverage technology and social media to amplify their voices and organize protests or campaigns. This is a powerful contrast to the methods available to Gen X or Boomers at the same stage. Their capacity to turn widespread dissatisfaction into coordinated action is impressive and shows real potential for reshaping labor conditions. Of course, this is just my personal take, but I believe that Gen Z’s ability to ‘make it hurt’ for exploitative companies—as shared by a Gen X'er in a candid message—is a sign of genuine progress. It also serves as a reminder that workplace norms are evolving, and employers need to adapt or risk losing their workforce's trust and talent. The ongoing dialogue between generations about work ethics and expectations might be challenging, but it is necessary. Both Gen X and Gen Z bring different perspectives to the table, and understanding these can help foster better workplaces and societal growth. From my experience, embracing this change rather than resisting it might be the best way forward for all.
