📝 [Classes + Assignments Table]
—————————————————— ————————
🍋 A good idea for organization is to make a Class List and then an Assignment List for your classes:
1. 🍋 Type “/table” and click “+ Create New” to make a new table. You can also name the title of this table.
🍋 Next, list out all of your Classes.
2. 🍋 Type “/table view” again. Click “create new” and to show the table. Name the table Assignments Table.
🍋 This time, in this table, list out the assignments/tasks in the classes.
3. 🍋 In the Assignments Table, click the 3 dots, click Properties, and then search for Relation Property. Then, click the relation property.
4. 🍋 Now, click the Classes Table Name that you set for the Classes Table. This will connect them together.
🍋 You can now see a new Property in your Assignments table. This property will allow you to select a class from your Class Table toward each assignment you have.

Hey everyone! So, you've got the basics down for using Notion for school, and that's awesome! But what if I told you we could take your Notion academic setup to the next level? I've been there, staring at a blank Notion page, wondering how to truly make it work for my classes and assignments. After a lot of trial and error, I found some game-changing tricks to supercharge my Notion databases. First, let's talk about making your 'Tasks' or 'Assignments' table (as mentioned in the original guide) even more powerful. Beyond just listing tasks, I always add a few key properties. A 'Date' property for due dates is a must – it's crucial for staying on top of deadlines. Then, I add a 'Select' property for 'Status' (think 'Not Started,' 'In Progress,' 'Waiting on Feedback,' 'Done') and another for 'Priority' (like 'High,' 'Medium,' 'Low'). This way, at a glance, I know exactly what needs my attention. For bigger projects, I also include a 'Files & Media' property to attach readings or research, and a 'URL' property for direct links to online resources. These additions transform a simple list into a dynamic project manager. What really helped me was learning to use filters and sorting effectively. With these extra properties, you can create custom views! For example, I have a view called 'Next 7 Days' that filters my assignments to show only tasks due in the upcoming week. Another view, 'Urgent Tasks,' filters by 'Priority is High' and 'Status is Not Done.' And if I want to focus on a specific subject, I just filter by the 'Relation' property to my 'Classes' table (like 'Class contains Biology'). Sorting by 'Due Date Ascending' always puts my most immediate tasks at the top, which is incredibly helpful for planning my study sessions. Now, let's tackle notes – a huge part of student life! To truly integrate my notes, I created a separate 'Notes Database.' This database has properties like 'Title,' 'Date Created,' and 'Tags' (for topics or keywords). The magic happens when you add a 'Relation' property to this 'Notes Database' that links back to your 'Classes' database. This means for every class, I can see all my related lecture notes, textbook summaries, and research directly within that class's page. It's my personal knowledge hub, making revision so much easier! I even link specific research notes to individual assignments when they're relevant, ensuring all my resources are interconnected. And here’s a quick bonus tip: once you have your 'Assignments' database set up with due dates, switch to a 'Calendar View'! It’s a fantastic visual way to see your entire academic schedule, spot potential overlaps, and plan your time more effectively. It’s a simple change from the 'List view' but incredibly impactful for managing your workload. Building out your Notion for school takes a little effort upfront, but trust me, the payoff in organization, reduced stress, and improved productivity is immense. It's like having a personal academic assistant that keeps everything in check. Give these advanced tips a try and see how Notion can truly transform your student life!
