I've been wanting to add something extra to my left ear for a while now, especially since my right ear has a fun setup with three lobe piercings and a double helix. I felt like my left side needed a little balancing out, and a 4th lobe piercing seemed like the perfect way to do it. For those wondering, a 4th lobe piercing is exactly what it sounds like – a piercing placed just above your usual third lobe piercing, still in the soft, fleshy part of your earlobe. This is a common question I see, "is the 4th lobe piercing cartilage?" and generally, no, it's still considered a lobe piercing, not cartilage, which often makes the healing process a bit easier and less painful compared to, say, a helix or conch. My piercer confirmed it was definitely in the lobe tissue, which was a relief! My experience getting it was actually pretty smooth. I'd say the pain was minimal, maybe a 3/10 on the pain scale, similar to my other lobe piercings. It was just a quick pinch, and then it was done! The satisfaction of seeing that new stud in place immediately made any discomfort worth it. I chose a simple, tiny stud for now, but I'm already dreaming of future jewelry changes. Aftercare is super important for any new piercing, and my new 4th lobe piercing is no exception. My piercer gave me clear instructions: clean it twice a day with a saline solution and avoid touching it as much as possible. I've been diligently following this, and so far, it's healing beautifully. I've heard stories about prolonged healing times if you don't take care of it properly, so I'm trying to be extra careful. Pillowcases are also something to consider – clean ones are a must! One of the best things about a 4th lobe piercing is how versatile it is for styling. For me, it was about creating a more symmetrical look across my ears, but it also opens up so many possibilities for stacking different earrings or creating a "curated ear" look. You can go for tiny studs, huggie hoops, or even small dangly charms once it's fully healed. I'm already thinking about what other piercings would complement this new addition on my left ear. Maybe a flat or a forward helix next? The possibilities are endless! If you're thinking about getting a fourth lobe piercing, I'd definitely recommend it. It's a relatively easy piercing to heal and a great way to add a subtle yet stylish touch to your ear. Just make sure you go to a reputable piercer who uses sterile equipment and gives you clear aftercare instructions. Happy piercing!
