As a Crested Gecko owner, I've found that understanding their natural environment and behavior significantly improves their care. These geckos thrive in a humid, tropical setup with plenty of vertical space for climbing since they are arboreal by nature. Providing plants and hiding spots mimics their native habitat, reducing their stress levels. When it comes to diet, Crested Geckos benefit from a varied menu. While commercially prepared powdered diets formulated for them are convenient and nutritionally balanced, supplementing with occasional live insects like crickets or roaches enriches their nutrition and stimulates natural hunting behavior. Fresh fruits such as mashed bananas or peaches can also be offered sparingly. Maintaining proper humidity around 60-80% is crucial, achieved by light misting once or twice daily depending on your enclosure. Avoid excessive dampness, which can lead to fungal infections. Monitoring temperature is equally important; they prefer a range between 72°F and 78°F with a slight drop at night. Finally, handling should be gentle and minimal, especially when they are new to your home, to build trust. With patience and proper care, Crested Geckos can be wonderful, low-maintenance pets that are fascinating to observe and interact with.
