Singapore Day 3:
Dempsey Hill

My latest food adventure took me to Dempsey Hill, a charming enclave in Singapore known for its diverse dining scene. On Day 3 of my trip, I was determined to find some authentic Indian food, and Samy's Curry kept popping up in recommendations. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Dempsey Hill itself is a fantastic destination for foodies. It’s got a relaxed, green vibe, quite different from the bustling city center, making it a perfect escape. Whether you're looking for a casual brunch, a romantic dinner spot, or a family-friendly restaurant, the area truly has something for everyone. But for me, the mission was clear: a true Indian feast that would tantalize my taste buds. Stepping into Samy's Curry, you immediately feel the rich heritage and vibrant atmosphere. It’s a classic Banana Sappadu restaurant, which means your delicious meal is served on a fresh banana leaf – an experience in itself that adds to the authenticity! While they're famous for their fish, we decided to dive into some of their other staples, and honestly, everything was super! The food felt incredibly fresh and packed with flavor, a true highlight of 'what to eat at Dempsey'. For our main dishes, the standouts for me were definitely the Masala Chicken and the Mysore Mutton. The Masala Chicken was perfectly spiced, tender, and incredibly satisfying, while the Mysore Mutton was so succulent and full of aromatic flavors. We also got the Chicken 65, which was crispy and bursting with a delightful savory kick. To complete our meal, we tried the Cabbage and Chicken Kuzhambu, a delightful combination that added a wonderful depth to the overall feast. The variety of flavors and textures on just one banana leaf was incredible, and I even ended up going back for more of their Mysore morsels! What I loved most about Samy's Curry was not just the delicious food but the entire experience. It’s about the tradition, the communal feel of dining, and the vibrant energy that fills the air. If you're exploring Dempsey Hill and wondering what to eat, and you have a craving for authentic Indian cuisine, Samy's Curry should absolutely be high on your list. It's one of those places that truly defines 'best restaurants in Dempsey' in terms of both taste and an unforgettable cultural experience. A little practical tip for visiting Dempsey Hill: it's generally best accessed by car or taxi, though there are shuttle services available from nearby MRT stations. Plan to spend some time exploring the charming boutiques, art galleries, and other dining establishments like Long Beach @ Dem after your meal. And if you're like me, constantly on the hunt for the next great bite, a friend mentioned Karu's as another strong contender for Indian food in Singapore. I’m definitely adding that to my list to compare – stay tuned for that review to see which we like better! All in all, my Samy's Curry experience was a really good one. It cemented Dempsey Hill as a top dining spot in Singapore, especially for anyone keen on delicious and authentic Indian food. Highly recommend trying their Mysore Mutton and Masala Chicken – you won't regret it!
