Many people find themselves tempted to use their phones in the shower, whether to listen to music, watch videos, or respond to messages. However, there are several reasons why this practice is not recommended. First and foremost, water and electronics don’t mix well. Even water-resistant phones can suffer damage from prolonged exposure to moisture, steam, or accidental drops in water. From my personal experience, I tried using my phone during showers to catch up on videos or chat, but soon noticed the device’s responsiveness declining and the speakers muffled. This was likely due to steam seeping into sensitive areas. I’ve also encountered situations where notifications and calls kept blowing up my phone’s screen, which made it difficult to conserve battery and focus on the task. Instead, a better approach is to keep the phone outside the wet area, maybe near the bathroom door or on a counter, where notifications are still audible but the device is safe. Using waterproof Bluetooth speakers or smart home assistants can also provide entertainment or control without exposing the phone to water. Additionally, consider setting your phone to Do Not Disturb mode while showering to avoid interruptions. Ultimately, protecting your phone from water damage preserves its functionality and lifespan, saving you from costly repairs or replacements. Plus, keeping a little distance from your phone during showers can help create a calming, tech-free moment to refresh and relax.
