The soft skills that always gets me hired
As a nurse practitioner, I had noooo idea that getting a job in a corporate setting was so much about soft skills. I think as clinicians, we are so fixated on our hard skill set like our medical knowledge. So much of what we do is related to algorithms and tasks. so when transitioning into a non-clinical role in the corporate world I’ve learned a couple of things along the way as I’ve interviewed for these types of positions.
Competency is of course so important when you are trying to land a job in ANY field-But what I’ve learned is that once you get to that interview phase, so much of what they are trying to identify is whether or not your personality would be a good fit for their team and the company. I’ve heard so many leaders say that you can teach on job responsibilities, but you can’t teach culture. If you can prove that you’re a culture fit, you’re likely to be a front runner.
This is where the soft skills come in. And as someone who interviews others now, here are 2 MAJOR skills I want them to have:
✔️Are they a good communicator?
✔️Do they present themselves confidently (are they confident when they speak, how is their body language)
How you make someone feel during a job interview goes such a long way and nailing these 2 down has never failed to get me to that next round of interviews!

Engaging in role-playing exercises can also help you strengthen these skills before your interview. By mastering these soft skills, you can enhance your employability and stand out to employers who value team dynamics and cultural fit.
