Detail Shots - Roach Dress
My cockroach dress ⭐️
I was nominated for Boston Fashion Award’s Accessory Designer and knew I had to create something as campy and queer as I am to wear to the award show✨
✨Outfit Details:
I bought the dress at a secondhand dress consignment shop, stitched a little under 500 cockroaches on to the dress, thrifted the purse & hand stitched a giant cockroach on, made the earrings + hair clips + rings & added some extra roaches crawling up the heels I thrifted ⭐️✨

Have you ever dreamed of wearing something truly unforgettable, something that challenges norms and expresses your unique personality? My award-nominated cockroach dress project started with that very idea – transforming the unexpected into a statement piece for a major fashion event. It's more than just a dress; it's a testament to creativity, upcycling, and embracing your authentic self. Creating a "roach dress" might sound wild, but it's a rewarding journey into avant-garde fashion. My process began with finding the perfect base – a vibrant yellow dress from a secondhand consignment shop. Choosing a thrifted item not only makes the project sustainable but also gives it a unique character from the start. The next step, and perhaps the most eye-catching, was meticulously stitching on nearly 500 individual brown cockroach figures. This wasn't just about sticking them on; it was about arranging them to create a dynamic, crawling effect across the fabric, making the dress truly come alive. But why stop at the dress? To complete the look, I designed a full suite of matching accessories. For the "cockroach shoes," I took a pair of thrifted white high-heels and carefully attached cockroach figures to the heels, giving them an unexpected edge. My "cockroach earrings" were crafted by hand, combining delicate white pearls with dangling cockroach figures, creating a playful yet elegant contrast. I also made coordinating hair clips, perfect for a "cockroach hairstyle" that truly ties the whole ensemble together. Even my purse got a complete makeover! I found a white sequined purse with a pearl handle and transformed it by stitching a large, prominent brown cockroach figure onto the front. This detail, along with a statement pearl ring and multi-strand pearl bracelet, ensured every element of the outfit was cohesive and conversation-starting. This approach to fashion isn't just about the shock value; it's about pushing boundaries, celebrating individuality, and showing the incredible potential of upcycled fashion. It's about taking something ordinary, or even something typically considered undesirable, and turning it into something beautiful and empowering. So, if you're looking to make your own bold fashion statement, remember that the most memorable outfits often start with a spark of unconventional inspiration and a willingness to get creative with your craft!

Very strange but you're rocking it!
