Picking Up Hobbies Instead of Snacks😋
I had said in an earlier post I wanted to make better choices and try to focus on my weigh loss, health, and start creating more. Lord behold when I scrolled through Lemon8 and found some talented girlies who were crocheting their OWN outfits. I took it as a sign to finally scratch that itch I’ve been wanting to for a few years now.
I’m finally taking up crocheting and for many reasons. Growing up I’ve always been artistic and it was my dream to be a fashion designer. Now that I’m older and slightly wiser😂 I thought now that I’ve gotten a little free time, why not try to get into my own version of this. It’s also a plus because I’ve been so into it that I’ve kind of forgotten about snacking out of boredom which is, again, HUGE for me!
(๑•̀ㅂ•́)و✧ I’m a binge eater and it’s hard as heck to control, so I definitely feel like this has all fallen into place at the right time. My goal is to try and get a project started soon and completed by the end of September.
So if y’all have any tips for beginning crotchet bbs, please let me know!😂 I cannot turn for the life of me😂

It's so exciting to hear about others starting new hobbies for their wellness journey, just like I am! When I decided to pick up crocheting, I realized how much finding the right hobby can truly transform your daily routine and mindset. For anyone out there looking for a creative outlet or a way to tackle habits like boredom snacking, diving into a new skill could be your answer. One of the biggest questions I had was, 'Where do I even start?' If you're pondering what hobby to pick up, think about what genuinely sparks your interest. Do you enjoy working with your hands, like me and my new crochet adventure? Or perhaps something more active, or even something that engages your mind, like learning a new language or digital art? The key is to find something that you'll want to come back to, not just something you feel obligated to do. Sometimes just browsing images of different crafts or activities can give you that initial spark – almost like looking for 'hobbies stock photo' inspiration to see what resonates! Since I'm all about crochet right now, let me share what I've learned so far for fellow beginner crocheters. First off, don't get overwhelmed by all the beautiful yarns and fancy hooks out there! To start, you really just need a few essentials: some relatively inexpensive acrylic yarn (the 'skein of yellow yarn' I have is perfect for practice!), and a basic crochet hook. I picked up a 'Boye crochet hook set' which gave me a few sizes to experiment with. You'll also want a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends. The first step is mastering the basic chain stitch. Trust me, it takes practice! My 'first few tries' looked like a tangled mess, but seeing that 'connected chain' eventually form was such a win. After that, you'll move on to single crochet. This is where I'm currently struggling, especially with 'tips on turning' at the end of a row. It feels like a puzzle trying to get consistent edges! I've been watching tons of YouTube tutorials, which have been super helpful. Don't be afraid to unravel your work and start over – it's all part of the learning process. There are so many free resources online, from video guides to written patterns, so you don't have to spend a fortune to get started. Many local craft stores also offer beginner classes, which can be a great way to learn hands-on. What I've found most impactful is how crocheting has replaced my urge to snack out of boredom. Instead of reaching for chips, I reach for my yarn and hook. It keeps my hands busy and my mind engaged, providing a healthy distraction and a sense of accomplishment. It's truly a powerful 'wellness habit' in action, helping me stay focused on my weight loss journey without feeling deprived. The satisfaction of seeing a project grow, from a simple chain to something more substantial like the beginnings of a scarf, is incredibly motivating. So, if you're looking for hobby inspiration, consider something creative and hands-on like crochet. Not only can you create beautiful things, but it also offers a mindful escape from daily stresses. What hobbies have you found helpful for your wellbeing? Share your experiences and any 'crochet tips for beginners' you have – I'm all ears!

YouTube has so many crochet videos and most of them are step-by-step which is the best for me m Also there are even left handers out there so I don't have to try to turn everything around! Have fun and your chain is coming out great ❤️❤️
