How my nurse portfolio helped my career
I didn’t think I needed a nursing portfolio… until I actually did.
I first realised how important it was when I started feeling stuck in my role. I knew I was working hard, growing, taking on more responsibility but when it came time to explain my experience in interviews and reviews, I struggled. My resume didn’t reflect everything I was doing, and I often felt overlooked and under-confident when advocating for myself.
That’s when I started building my nursing portfolio.
For me, it’s more than paperwork. I include my certifications, education, skills I’ve developed on the floor, feedback from colleagues and patients, reflections from challenging shifts, and examples where I stepped up, whether that was supporting junior staff, handling complex patients, or managing difficult situations.
