NURSING SCHOOL TIPS

... Read moreStarting nursing school can feel overwhelming, but with the right strategies, you can navigate it successfully. From my experience, one of the most helpful habits is to stop memorizing blindly and focus on truly understanding the material. When you learn well enough to teach it to someone else, you know you've grasped it deeply. Organization is absolutely crucial. I recommend investing in a yearly planner and color coding your assignments by class. This visual aid keeps deadlines and study sessions clear, reducing last-minute stress. Instead of cramming before exams, study a little every day to retain knowledge better over time. Pharmacology can be intimidating, but breaking medications down by drug classes and focusing on key side effects and nursing considerations makes it manageable. Pay special attention to which medications require holding doses based on patient conditions, as this can impact patient safety. Don't underestimate the fundamentals or foundational content just because it seems easy; often, these are heavily tested areas. Also, learn your professors’ testing styles to avoid overstudying irrelevant topics. When answering exam questions, always read the last line first to understand what’s truly being asked, and prioritize airway, breathing, and circulation (ABCs) over other concerns like pain. Finally, take note when professors emphasize certain points—they usually signal important concepts that will appear on exams. Using these methods has helped me stay confident and effective throughout my nursing education journey. Staying focused on understanding and organized planning truly makes nursing school manageable and rewarding.
