Working too hard at Amazon.
Working at Amazon can definitely be intense, and if you’re like me, you’ve probably felt that 'working too hard' vibe. It’s a fast-paced environment, and frankly, it can be draining if you don't have a strategy to keep your head in the game and maintain some balance. I’ve been there, and over time, I’ve developed a routine that helps me tackle each day at the warehouse without getting completely overwhelmed. For me, the key to a well-balanced workday starts before I even clock in. It’s all about getting into the right mindset. My morning ritual is pretty simple but effective: Hydrate and Fuel Up: I make sure to drink a big glass of water right when I wake up and grab something light to eat. It sounds basic, but you’d be surprised how much a good breakfast helps sustain your energy for those long shifts. Mental Prep: On my way to work, I try to listen to something uplifting or informative. It helps clear my head and gets me ready to focus. The Quick Pre-Shift Check-in: Once I arrive, before I even put on my yellow safety vest, I usually head to the restroom for a quick moment to myself. It's a small thing, but looking in the mirror, taking a deep breath, and mentally setting an intention for the day helps a lot. It's my personal 'reset' button before the shift officially begins. I remind myself of my tasks and focus on being efficient and safe to support our customers. During the shift, it's easy to get caught up in the rush. Here are a few tricks I use to keep my energy and focus up: Take Your Breaks – Seriously! This is paramount. Even if you feel like you're in a groove, step away. Use your breaks to truly disconnect, even for 15 minutes. I usually grab a quick snack, drink more water, and maybe stretch a bit. A quick walk or even just staring out a window can make a difference. Micro-Breaks & Hydration: Throughout the day, whenever there's a natural lull or I'm moving between tasks, I try to take a few deep breaths. And I always keep a water bottle handy. Dehydration can sneak up on you and make you feel sluggish. Prioritization & Focus: It can feel like there are a million things to do. I try to identify my top 2-3 critical tasks for the first half of my shift and tackle those first. This helps me feel accomplished and less overwhelmed by the sheer volume of work. It’s about supporting our customers effectively, which means not burning myself out. When the day wraps up, it’s just as important to transition out of work mode. Decompression: I try not to bring work home with me. That means leaving any work-related frustrations or thoughts at the door. Sometimes, a quick walk or a chat with a coworker about non-work stuff helps me decompress right after my shift. Reflect, Don't Dwell: Instead of dwelling on what went wrong, I quickly think about what went well and maybe one thing I could improve tomorrow. This is my version of "reviewing yesterday's calls" – a personal reflection to ensure continuous improvement without the stress. Working at Amazon is a unique experience, and every employee finds their own rhythm. These are just some of the ways I try to maintain a balanced routine and a positive mindset. It’s all about finding what works for you to stay productive and, most importantly, healthy, both physically and mentally. Hope this helps anyone out there navigating the Amazon workplace!
