Struggling to Thriving: My Journey
Hey Lemon8 fam, I’m new here! Ever felt buried under the weight of financial struggles? That was me just a few months ago. Between managing two jobs—one as a Special Education Teaching Assistant and the other as a Government employee—and trying to get my finances back on track, I found myself overwhelmed with over $75,000 in Medical bills, Car Loan, Credit Debt and other expenses and a lack of financial education.
But instead of letting it define me, I made a bold choice: I filed for bankruptcy. At first, it was terrifying. The stigma, the uncertainty about the future… But once I signed those papers, I felt a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made, but honestly, it was the best thing for me at that time.
Since filing, I’m focused on rebuilding my financial future. Here’s what I’m doing:
➡️Reviewing my finances regularly: I sit down multiple times a month to review everything—from my income to my expenses. It’s all about staying on top of my financial situation.
➡️Tracking every dollar: I’ve created spreadsheets to keep track of all my spending. Every dollar has a purpose, and I’m intentional with where it goes.
➡️Setting financial goals: Whether it’s improving my credit score or learning how to manage my multiple jobs better, I’m laser-focused on my future.
➡️Prioritizing needs over wants: Learning the difference between what I need and what I want has helped me stay disciplined with my spending.
➡️Constant learning: I’m continuously educating myself on personal finance, business strategies, and how to grow my financial literacy.
The journey isn’t easy, but I’m seeing small wins every day—like improving my credit score and getting better at budgeting. If you’re going through something similar, know that you’re not alone. It’s never too late to learn, and it’s never too late to start rebuilding. Together, we can overcome anything! 💪
Experiencing financial difficulties can feel overwhelming, but it’s important to understand that you’re not alone. Many individuals face the daunting task of overcoming substantial debt and financial mismanagement. The journey often begins with a crucial step: recognizing the need for change. This can include assessing debts like credit card bills, car loans, and medical expenses that can accumulate over time. Filing for bankruptcy, while stigmatized, is sometimes the best option to regain control over your finances. It acts as a reset button that allows individuals to discharge certain debts and focus on rebuilding financial health. Once you make the decision to move forward, establishing a budget becomes essential. Start by tracking your income and expenses meticulously. Utilize budgeting apps or spreadsheets to visualize where your money goes each month. Setting specific financial goals—like improving your credit score or saving for an emergency fund—can motivate you on this journey. Educating yourself on financial literacy is a powerful tool. Consider attending workshops, reading books on personal finance, or following reputable finance blogs. The more informed you are, the better decisions you’ll make in the future. Remember, prioritizing needs over wants is key. Differentiate between essential purchases and discretionary spending to cultivate discipline in your financial habits. Stay connected with communities that share similar experiences, like forums focused on debt recovery and financial independence. Many individuals find strength and inspiration in sharing their stories, paving the way for a supportive network on the path to financial freedom.
