My Story with the Marketing Interview Process😳

The first photo is me before my second round interview. The second and last photos are me at my first day of work!🥹

When anyone asks what the interview process was for me at my current role, I always laugh because the process was unlike anything I've experienced. 🫣This was my personal experience with this specific role and company, so things can always look different depending on the situation!

1. 📑Application: I found my current role on Indeed and applied with my resume (which looking back wasn't all that impressive...)

2. 👩🏽‍💻First Interview: I met with the Marketing Manager over Zoom for maybe 20 minutes. She asked about my experience with expectations that were listed in my job description such as influencer outreach, social media management, and blog management.

3. 💼Second Interview: An in-person meeting at the office with the Marketing Manager and Company Manager. We went over my physical resume (definitely recommend keeping a printed version on you!)

4. 🎥Video Submission: The team sent over some items to film a social media reel with. I spent an entire two days shooting, editing, and perfecting it!

5. 🤑Third Meeting: We discussed salary requirements and budget!

THEN after close to a month from applying, I secured the job!

So if you're in the middle of a long hiring process, don't give up! Odds are that job offer is right around the corner :) Have you had any crazy interview experiences?

... Read moreThe marketing interview process outlined here highlights several important aspects that candidates should consider to improve their chances of success in today's competitive job market. Firstly, the use of multiple interview formats—from virtual Zoom meetings to in-person discussions and creative video submissions—reflects the evolving nature of recruitment methods in marketing roles. Candidates should prepare not only for traditional interviews but also for creative assessments such as filming social media reels, which are increasingly used to evaluate skills in content creation and digital engagement. Secondly, keeping a printed copy of your resume for in-person interviews remains a best practice. This simple preparation can make a positive impression and shows professionalism and readiness. Thirdly, the timeline of the hiring process—spanning nearly a month—demonstrates patience is key. Job seekers should remain persistent and maintain a positive mindset even if progress seems slow, as every stage advances them closer to their goal. Fourthly, open communication about salary expectations during the interview phase is vital. Understanding budget constraints and discussing compensation candidly helps align expectations early, avoiding surprises later. Finally, the inclusion of social media and digital marketing skills such as influencer outreach, blog management, and content creation in the interview process highlights the importance of a versatile skill set in marketing careers today. Aspiring marketers should continually develop these competencies to stay competitive. By embracing these insights from a real-world marketing interview journey, candidates can better prepare for the complexities of the hiring process and boost their chances of landing their desired role in the dynamic field of digital marketing.
