Homemade Rock Coaster
Made another goofy coaster from air dry clay.

When I first started watching 'Over The Garden Wall,' I immediately fell in love with its whimsical, slightly eerie atmosphere and charming characters. But honestly, the 'Rock Facts' rock stole my heart! There's just something so endearing about that little guy dispensing his geological wisdom. So, when I was thinking of a new DIY project to brighten up my space, especially with autumn vibes around, making a 'Rock Fact' coaster felt like the perfect tribute. I decided to use air dry clay because it's so beginner-friendly and doesn't require any special equipment like a kiln. I grabbed some gray air dry clay, which was perfect for mimicking a natural rock. The process was surprisingly simple and incredibly satisfying. First, I shaped a small, irregular rock-like base. I love that you don't have to be perfect; the more natural and lumpy, the better it looks! Once I had the basic rock shape, the real fun began: giving it that iconic cartoon face. I used small pieces of white clay for the eyes, then tiny dots of blue for the pupils, making sure they had that slightly wide-eyed, innocent look. For the mouth, I rolled out a thin piece of yellow clay and shaped it into a friendly, slightly curvy smile. And of course, no 'Rock Fact' is complete without that adorable little red tongue peeking out! I carefully attached all the facial features, gently pressing them into the clay to make sure they'd stay put. Seeing the character come to life in my hands was just magical. After letting my gray air dry clay coaster dry completely – which usually takes a day or two depending on thickness – I sealed it with a clear craft sealant. This step is super important, especially for a coaster, as it protects it from moisture and gives it a nice, durable finish. Now, every time I set down my mug, I get a little dose of 'Rock Fact' charm, reminding me of those cozy, autumnal adventures with Wirt and Greg. If you're an OTGW fan, I highly recommend trying this cozy garden coaster build! You could even experiment with different expressions or other characters from the show.
