Bap

Every time I turn my back, there she is, playfully reaching out with her paw, giving the ornaments a little 'bop'! It's hilarious to watch, especially when she bats at the shiny '2023' decoration. I swear, sometimes it seems like she thinks the tree is her personal giant toy. I even caught her trying to 'bap' the little animated hearts on a nearby ornament. Does anyone else's kitty do this? It's all just part of their natural curiosity and hunting instincts, right? I've learned a few tricks to keep both Luna and the festive tree safe, while still letting her enjoy her playful interactions. First, we anchor the tree securely – you don't want a full-blown cat vs. tree wrestling match ending in disaster! For ornaments, I've started putting the most fragile or sentimental ones higher up, out of paw's reach. The bottom branches get cat-safe, shatterproof decorations. And trust me, avoiding tinsel is a must-do! It looks fun to them, but it can be really dangerous if ingested. Another thing I've found super helpful is providing plenty of other engaging toys around the house. If Luna has her own cat tree to climb, interactive toys to chase, or even just some crinkle balls, she's less likely to see the Christmas tree as her primary source of entertainment. I try to schedule dedicated playtime sessions with her each day using a wand toy – it helps burn off some of that playful energy that might otherwise be directed at our holiday décor. This way, when she does 'bap' the tree, it's more of a gentle curiosity rather than a full-on assault. It’s also important to make sure any electrical cords from lights are tucked away and out of sight. Cats love to chew, and that's a hazard no one wants. For preventing them from drinking the tree water (which can contain harmful chemicals), consider a tree skirt that covers the base tightly. I've also heard of people using citrus scents or aluminum foil around the base to deter curious kitties, though Luna doesn't seem to mind citrus much! Ultimately, having a playful cat during the holidays adds so much joy and laughter to our home. Even with all the 'bapping,' it wouldn't be Christmas without her festive antics.
