I remember the first time we tried the 'Samson's Tower of Strength' craft; the kids were so excited! It’s more than just cutting and gluing; it’s a living lesson that truly sticks with them. As we assembled our towers from cardboard tubes and added the yarn hair for Samson, we talked about how God had a special plan for Samson even before he was born, just like He has one for each of us. While the main craft focuses on building the tower, there are so many ways to deepen the learning experience. For instance, when we were attaching the gray stone-like cutouts to our cardboard tubes, I asked the children to think about what makes them feel strong, and then we connected it back to God being our ultimate source of strength. It was so sweet to see their little minds connecting the dots! One thing I found really helpful was to read the story of Samson directly from the Bible as we worked. We didn't just focus on his physical strength, but also his journey – his ups and downs. It helped the kids understand that even when Samson made mistakes, God's plan for him didn't change, and God could still use him. This teaches them about grace and redemption, which is a powerful message for young hearts. To make the craft even more engaging, I sometimes bring in different types of yarn for Samson's hair, letting the kids choose their favorite colors. And when it comes to the rope, some kids love to braid it themselves. It adds another layer of personal touch to their 'Tower of Strength.' Seeing them write 'MI FUERZA VIENE DE DIOS' (My strength comes from God) on their finished towers is always a heartwarming moment. For those of you also looking for activities related to 'la creacion manualidad' (creation crafts), you can easily tie this Samson lesson into the broader theme of God’s amazing creation. After discussing Samson's unique purpose, we sometimes branch out to how God created each of us uniquely and gave us all different talents. You could follow this craft with a simple 'Creation Collage' using natural elements found outside, like leaves, twigs, and flowers, to celebrate God's amazing world and how He designed everything with a purpose. It really helps reinforce the idea that God has a plan for all of creation, including them! Don't worry if you don't have every material listed; improvisation is part of the fun! If you don't have adhesive letters, just grab some markers. The most important part is the conversation and the time spent together, fostering their faith. This craft is a fantastic way to make Bible stories come alive and help children realize that God's strength is always available to them, no matter what.
