Sharing my thoughts on different reads 📚
It’s been a really slow reading month so far. Usually I try to do 10 books a month but right now I've only gotten through four. Cloud Cuckoo Land and Day were my first reads of September. Both these books follow a kaleidoscope of characters over several timelines, but while Day is a pandemic family saga, Cloud Cuckoo Land mixes a bunch of different genres into a narrative that is interesting but a little hard to follow. I loved Day a lot more. In fact it was the first pandemic fiction I actually enjoyed. If you enjoyed The Hours, also by Michael Cunningham, you’ll also enjoy this!

In this article, I delve into the fascinating worlds presented in 'Day' and 'Cloud Cuckoo Land.' 'Day' is a poignant family saga set against the backdrop of the pandemic, capturing the trials and triumphs of a family as they navigate life’s challenges. Michael Cunningham's masterful storytelling shines in this narrative, touching on themes of love, loss, and resilience. On the other hand, ‘Cloud Cuckoo Land’ is an ambitious novel by Anthony Doerr that weaves together multiple characters and timelines, each connected by a lost Greek novel. The story spans different eras, blending historical elements with romance and science fiction, creating a rich tapestry that can sometimes feel complex. Although it may present a challenge to follow due to its intricate narrative, the effort is rewarding for those who appreciate literary depth. Readers who enjoyed 'The Hours' by Cunningham might find 'Day' a compelling read, as it resonates with similar emotional beats and literary flair. Enhance your reading experience by exploring themes common to both books, such as the passage of time and the importance of human connections in a changing world. Don’t forget to share your thoughts and favorite moments if you’ve read these books!
