🏡7 Days In: Turning This House Into a Home
✨ Week 1 Renovation Recap – Our 4-Room BTO Journey Begins! ✨
And just like that… renovation has officially kicked off! 🛠️
This first week was all about tearing down, clearing out, and setting the foundation for the home we’ve been dreaming of.
What’s been done so far:
✨ Hacking
✨ Electrical planning
✨ First look at the space opened up — everything suddenly feels real
✨ Finalizing material + carpentry decisions before fabrication starts
It’s messy, noisy, dusty… but also strangely exciting. Can’t wait to see this empty shell slowly transform into our cozy space. 🏡💛
Stay tuned — Week 2 coming soon! 👀

During renovation, embracing design principles truly makes a difference. For example, we chose to hack half of the BR3 wall to maximize natural light since the windows are smaller than we hoped. This simple change brightened the entire space and created a more inviting home environment. DIY decisions have been key in making the process meaningful and fun. Though the work has been dusty and noisy, actively participating in design and carpentry choices allowed us to feel deeply connected to our future home. We even faced unexpected hurdles, like our service yard wall hacking being rejected, which taught us the importance of flexibility and budgeting for contingencies such as PE endorsement fees. If you’re thinking of renovating yourself, I’d encourage you to focus on design principles like light flow and space functionality while balancing personal preferences. Having fun with the process and allowing room for changes can make all the difference. I’m excited to keep sharing our journey and hope our experiences help you plan a home that truly reflects your dreams.
