I'm a professional graphic designer with over 20 years of experience. It's what I know. It's what I'm good at. I enjoy it so much, I started my own freelance graphic design business called Oesfreelancing Graphic Design. It's my jam!

The pieces in the picture were designed by me for the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF). I designed the logo you see on the coffee mug. And I designed the cover of the pocket program on the left. The 200+ page book in the back with the 2025 Miss Illinois Fair Queen was also laid out by me. And finally, the 11x17 contestent trifold program was designed by me.

Designing for the Illinois Association of Agricultural Fairs (IAAF) was particularly fulfilling because it combined my passion for design with a deep appreciation for local culture and community events. Working on a variety of materials—from logos on coffee mugs to comprehensive event programs—requires attention to detail and a strong understanding of branding. For instance, when designing a logo like the one featured on the IAAF coffee mug, it's essential to create something that is not only visually appealing but also resonates with the organization's identity and audience. Layout design, particularly for extensive projects such as a 200+ page book, demands meticulous planning. Tools like Adobe InDesign become indispensable, allowing for consistent formatting and a polished final product. It’s always rewarding to see such sizable projects succeed, especially when they highlight special events like the 2025 Miss Illinois Fair Queen pageant. Running my own freelance graphic design business has taught me much about client communication and project management. Freelancing isn’t just about creativity—it’s also about meeting deadlines, understanding client needs, and managing multiple projects simultaneously. Building strong relationships with clients like the IAAF has been key to sustaining my business. For those interested in graphic design, I recommend continuously honing your craft with real-world projects, seeking feedback, and staying updated with design trends. Participating in community-related designs can also provide purpose and fulfillment beyond aesthetics. Ultimately, if graphic design is your jam, immerse yourself fully—you’ll never stop learning and growing.
