Sorry for the long reveal. I actually don't even live here anymore. My partner and I split during my Navy service. Also, I was in the Navy.
I got the curtains from a Walmart pack and cut them to fit them to the window. I was going to use the extra fabric for the lamp shades and add gold trim to both the curtains and the lamps.
I also got two nets from Five Below for the stuffed animals. I didn't end up using the hooks from the pack I got different ones from Walmart I paint to match the curtain rod. I didn't get a picture of those because I had moved when I got back from my service.
I think it turned out exactly as I wanted it to. I love a dark colored bedroom. I also got our cat a squishmellow bed but he never would sleep in it. It has a hard bottom so I used it to write notes in bed more than for the cat. I got it off Amazon.
I don't get to enjoy it but it's nice to think I left a house I'll never see again with a touch of my own hard work and creative mind.
... Read moreWhen it comes to painting and redecorating a room, using everyday finds from stores like Walmart, Five Below, and Amazon can make a huge difference. Personally, I found that customizing curtains by cutting them to fit and adding trims can elevate the look easily and affordably. Using leftover fabric for accents like lamp shades adds cohesion and a personalized touch to any space.
One tip I learned is that matching hardware or paint for curtain rods and hooks helps unify the room’s aesthetic. Although I didn’t use the original hooks I bought, switching to painted ones created a subtle yet stylish effect that ties everything together. Stuffed animal nets from Five Below are a clever storage solution that keeps toys organized without taking up floor space, and it adds a playful, decorative element.
I’m also big on creating cozy corners for pets, like a squishmellow bed for a cat—even if it ends up doubling as a note-taking spot! These small choices make a room feel lived-in and warm. Choosing a dark paint color over lighter shades can actually create an intimate, relaxing atmosphere that’s perfect for unwinding, especially in a bedroom.
Even if you’re redecorating a space you might not live in long-term, the effort and creativity you put into it leave a lasting impression — not only on the house but as a reflection of your personal style and hard work. It’s inspiring to know that DIY projects can make a house truly feel like a home, regardless of circumstances. Whether you’re tackling a full room paint job or adding small decorative touches, combining budget-friendly finds with thoughtful design transforms a space uniquely yours.
