What programs I use as an author
I posted an author diary a few days ago and someone asked what software I use, so I figured I’d share the apps I use while writing.
1. GRAMMARLY
I’ve been using the free version of Grammarly for as long as I can remember. It’s really helpful for correcting spelling and grammar, and it can also give suggestions to make your writing clearer or easier to read. You can pay for the premium version, which has more features, but honestly the free version works great for me.
2. REEDSY
Reedsy is a program designed specifically for authors. It has tools that help you organize your book, plan your story, and keep everything structured in chapters. It’s also really easy to use when you’re building your manuscript. Reedsy also has something called the Reedsy Marketplace, where you can hire editors, proofreaders, and other professionals if you need help publishing your book.
3. GOOGLE DOCS
I know there are a lot of programs made for authors to write in (like Reedsy), but I’ve always liked using Google Docs too. It’s simple, completely free, and accessible from any device. I also like that it auto-saves everything and keeps a version history in case you accidentally delete something.
4. SPOTIFY / PINTEREST
These aren’t really writing programs, but I use them a lot while writing. I like listening to music that fits the mood of my story or the specific scene I’m working on. Pinterest also helps me visualize characters, settings, and the overall vibe of the story.
