BOOK REVIEW: The Silent Patient 🤫

I’ve heard of this book for the last few years & have tried reading it a time or two. BUT the ladies in my family started a book club in June & this was the first book we decided on..

The beginning was super slow, we all agreed on that! But once you get past the LONG descriptive parts it really starts to become interesting.

FOR ME the big twist was pretty obvious. I started piecing things together and wasn’t super surprised. It was still one of those “HAHA I KNEW IT” moments. BUT my sister, & my aunt didn’t have that experience. They were both shocked and taken aback 🤷🏻‍♀️

The ending was just okay to me. I really don’t know how i wanted it to end, but the way it ended wasn’t what I was envisioning!

Have you read this book? What was your rating?

... Read moreI remember first seeing 'The Silent Patient' cover – that striking, minimalist image really drew me in! It perfectly sets the tone for a psychological thriller, hinting at the darkness and internal struggle within. Whether you grab the paperback edition from a bookstore or read the Kindle edition on your e-reader, that cover art is iconic for Alex Michaelides' work and instantly recognizable as a bestselling psychological thriller. What truly makes this a standout psychological thriller, in my opinion, is the intricate web woven around Alicia Berenson and her enigmatic silence. Her psychological state and the mystery surrounding her husband's murder are central. And then there's Theo Faber, the psychotherapist determined to unlock her secrets and unravel the truth. Their dynamic is what drives the entire narrative, making you constantly try to piece together what happened, much like Theo himself. I found myself deeply invested in both Alicia's past and Theo's present quest. Speaking of piecing things together, the 'twist ending' is definitely what everyone talks about with this book. It's a key reason why 'The Silent Patient' became such a phenomenon and a must-read psychological thriller. For me, anticipating that big reveal added so much to the tension and made it un-put-down-able. It's the kind of psychological thriller novel that makes you rethink everything you thought you knew, which is a hallmark of a truly great story in this genre. The way Alex Michaelides crafts the suspense is masterful. If you're diving into this for the first time, I highly recommend finding a quiet space to truly immerse yourself. It's one of those stories where every detail matters, and even subtle clues can lead to big revelations. And if you're a fan of thrillers that delve deep into character psychology and feature complex narratives, you'll likely appreciate Alex Michaelides' writing style here. The role of Alicia Berenson's painting, particularly her final piece, 'Alcestis,' is also fascinating and adds another layer to the mystery and her silent defiance. It’s definitely a book that sparks a lot of discussion in a book club!
