My first tattoo. Is this bad?
I very much liked the result since I don’t know what to have. But after hearing many different opinions from my friends. I'm kinda starting to doubt it. The thing is I can’t decide what tattoo I wanna have, but I just want to get one.
Is this just me? Or people get random or simple ones, which is meaningless?
It's totally normal to feel a mix of emotions after getting your first tattoo, especially when friends chime in! I remember when I got my minimalist first tattoo – a simple thin red vertical line on my arm – I was initially thrilled. But then the questions started swirling, just like you mentioned. It made me wonder, does every tattoo have to be a profound statement? Sometimes, indecision is part of the process, and choosing something simple might just be right for you. Let's talk about the actual experience for anyone else out there feeling confused about getting their first ink. A common question is, what does a tattoo pain feel like? For me, it wasn't as bad as I thought, but it definitely depends on the placement. My minimalist line on my arm felt more like a constant scratching or a strong vibration. Areas with less fat and closer to bone, like ribs or ankles, are generally more sensitive. Think of it like a cat scratch that just keeps going. It's uncomfortable, but usually manageable, and for smaller designs like mine, it's over before you know it! Everyone's pain tolerance is different, but don't let fear of pain stop you if you really want one. And tattoo first day care is super important! After my artist wrapped up my red line tattoo, they gave me strict instructions. Keeping it clean is key – gentle wash with unscented soap and warm water, then pat dry. After that, a thin layer of recommended aftercare lotion. It'll probably feel a bit warm, look red, and might even ooze a little plasma and ink, which is normal. Don't pick at it, and avoid direct sunlight. This initial care sets the stage for good healing and prevents those bad first tattoos stories you sometimes hear about, often from poor aftercare. To avoid future doubt or regret, especially if you're prone to indecision like I was, here are a few tips I wish I'd considered more deeply: Research your artist: Look at their portfolio to ensure their style matches what you want. Placement matters: Think about how visible you want your tattoo to be and how it might age. Take your time with design: Even for a simple tattoo, sit with the idea for a while. If you're still excited about that thin red vertical line after a few months, go for it! Meaning isn't mandatory, but clarity helps: While not every tattoo needs a profound meaning, understanding why you want it, even if it's just "because I like it," can help you stand firm against others' opinions. If it makes you happy, that's meaning enough! Talk to others: Hear out different experiences, not just friends who might be judgmental. Forums or communities (like some Reddit tattoo advice threads) can offer diverse perspectives on everything from design ideas to healing processes. Ultimately, your tattoo is for *you*. If you love your minimalist first tattoo, that's all that truly matters. Don't let external opinions overshadow your personal joy. It's a part of your story!
