What are the best times to visit Roozengaard?

Last weekend we had a visit to Roozengaard’s tulip fields in Mount Vernon. It is a spot 10/10 for kid-friendly and stunning photos! We went early morning (beat the crowds for parking, trust me, toddler meltdowns start early, so timing is everything).

Peak bloom’s mid-April (we went week 1 and some rows were still green). Tickets are $16 weekdays, $20 weekends, and parking’s a breeze if you arrive by 10AM. Pack snacks, a picnic blanket, and sunscreen, we laid out on the grass for lunch while my little one chased butterflies. Outfit-wise, highly recommend light colors for pics. Just watch out for muddy paths.

Anyone else hit up tulip festivals with kids? How do you keep them still for photos? Or recommend another PNW flower spot? This was our first time, but we’re already planning next year, maybe try the wooden shoe tulip farm in Oregon? Share your spring traditions!

... Read moreAfter my recent incredible visit to Roozengaard’s tulip fields, I felt inspired to share even more about planning your perfect trip, especially if you're like me and want to make the most of the Washington Tulip Festival! While getting there early, especially before 10 AM on weekends, is a game-changer for parking and crowd avoidance, I've learned a few extra tricks. For catching the absolute peak blooms and those iconic vibrant fields of pink and yellow tulips, keeping an eye on Roozengaard's official website or social media is key. They often post daily updates on which sections are blooming best. While mid-April is generally peak, weather can shift it slightly. If you're looking for fewer crowds, consider visiting on a weekday or during the festival's shoulder weeks. You might find a different stage of bloom, but the experience can be more serene, allowing you to truly soak in the beauty of the expansive tulip fields without feeling rushed. Beyond the massive fields of tulips that stretch towards the distant mountains, don't miss the meticulously maintained display garden. This is where you’ll find incredible arrangements of colorful potted tulips, often featuring unique varieties and intricate designs. It’s a photographer’s dream, and you can spend ages admiring the artistry. The iconic Dutch-style windmill is another must-see, providing that perfect backdrop for photos and adding to the European charm of the place. I found myself drawn to the sections with the bold red and orange tulips, which truly pop against the green landscape and clear blue sky. Many people ask about Roozengaard vs. Tulip Town. From my perspective, Roozengaard offers a grander scale of field views and the formal display garden, making it superb for those breathtaking landscape shots and a more traditional experience. Tulip Town often has more indoor displays and unique themed areas, which can be fantastic, especially if the weather is unpredictable or you're looking for more interactive elements. Both are wonderful, but knowing your priorities helps in choosing! If you're venturing further, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Oregon is another fantastic option, offering a different but equally beautiful experience. To make your tulip field day truly memorable, pack smarter than just snacks and sunscreen. Comfortable, waterproof shoes are a must for those potentially muddy paths – trust me on this! While there are food vendors, bringing a picnic blanket and your own lunch, as we did, can save money and give you a lovely, relaxing break amidst the blooms. Imagine laying out surrounded by vast tulip fields, gazing at the distant mountains, truly feeling immersed. Also, don't forget a portable charger for your phone – you'll be taking so many photos of the 'Roozengaarde 2023 Tulip Festival' sign and all the amazing flowers! Whether you're chasing the perfect shot of the Dutch-style windmill or simply enjoying the serenity, a little extra planning goes a long way.
